depends on what the PhD is in, what school it's at, what professor you're working under, and what you hope to get out of it.

I'm 32 and just enrolled in trade school (carpentry)
What am I in for?

probably a successful and fulfilling career? Jesus was a carpenter and by most accounts, he was pretty happy and based.

30 isn't that old if you take care of yourself, if you don't you better start doing it gramps.

>> No.54245290

>>54244942
Only do it if you're well-off (grad student stipends are usually shit and you aren't geting one of the cozy deals if you're having to ask 4chan this question), obsessed with (NOT just interested in) whatever the field of study is, and can put up with constant Leftist bullshit.

Nothing. You will die unloved and poor.

I've met people who were pursuing PhDs in their 50s and 60s

if it's something you are passionate about doing, and you'd regret not doing it, then do it

PhD is a scam. 3 years and you don't improve your employability at all

It doesn't advance your career.
I've observed many PhDs up close. I work with them all the time. They're no further than a guy who did research for 3-4 years without a PhD are.

>> No.54245408

>>54245384
PhDs are 3 years if you already have a masters which you should unless you're American ofc

PhDs are a bare minimum qualification for the type of organizations I want to work for, troon. Cope, seethe, and dilate.

You sound like trade school is more your thing kek. Many troons will found at university. Revaluate chud.

>shut it troon, i'm getting to my dream job, ok?
>two more weeks troon, then i'll hear back
I am a millennial too and this attitude is why we are the most failed generation out of all of them. Even Zoomers don't expect they'll land an ideal job, and they know this before college round 1. You are stupider than a Zoomer.

There's nothing wrong with chasing dreams, but you're talking about throwing money down like you've already accomplished everything and just need to get certified.

I'd ask what the orgs are but would you even tell us? kek

>>54245394
I think they're genuinely useful for networking in crowded professional fields in Humanities- Archaeology, History, even Zoology. Where there aren't many positions open per specialization topic and you need academic connections to get visiting professor jobs or brought on for digs etc. An old mentor of mine for example had government contacts in Uzbekistan etc. who were boozed with and appeased to get archaeology work approved. Similar deal with professors doing field research on Gorillas etc.

No clue how hard science PhDs work and what the career paths are.

Cuz ur old and fat and probably bi and don't even know it yet

>> No.54246294

>>54246184
It's the same for hard sciences but it's slightly better than soft sciences as usual.
A PhD is worse than the equivalent years of diverse work experience. A graduate program at a big company is better than a PhD for money. The quality of graduate program fags is also higher than the mouth breathing PhDs.
