I have always been told this at every job and always put in bare minimum. In school I got B+ doing zero, literally zero work. Never even went to class in college for 90% of my classes (only went to the ones I enjoyed). Got a volunteer gig where I do fuck all and they keep telling me I'm the model volunteer and have asked me to train other volunteers.

You know what it is, anon? Most people are fucking retards with zero ability to be efficient. You are probably smart and can get a lot done without much effort.

It's a blessing as much as a curse. Like me your brain probably always does the bare minimum because you were never really challenged, and now you're lazy and will never be overly ambitious.

They just want to punch in and punch out. By doing your shit and making yourself scarce you consume as little of their time and energy while making their job easy. This makes you valuable to the people who decide if you stick around. By doing more, you make yourself more valuable to the company, but create more work and headaches for the person you work for. To get to this point op needed to read programming books, stay up till three am, do tough math independently off the clock and school to learn a bunch of shit and master it.
