Is it ok to buy 4 week t-bills? I just bought some for my dad but I'm spooked

i bought 180k worth for 4/18 maturity. i paid 179,425. i did this for my dad. so he will make 575

thanks anon. i dont have that much to put in, maybe 2.5k tops, but its safe. also I wonder how much the interest is taxed federally.

>> No.54233422

1) pretty much impossible to avoid taxes
2) will be automatically garnished (lien-ed) if you have a judgment for outstanding debt such as back-owed student debt
and the coupon rates are trash

>> No.54233819

>>54233382
not sure 2.5k would be worth it for t-bills imo. for a 4 week t-nill you will make roughly 8 dollars
>>54233422
yea well this is money that just sits in my dads account so im just trying to make him a little extra money every month.

Yeah, the money is a lot safer as a t-bill than it is sitting in a bank anyway.
The returns aren't good, but shortish-term bills are the best place to have liquid money.

thanks, i figured it was the right move instead of sitting in the bank

The 3-month and 4-month have had the best returns fren. I’ve been doing it until opportunistic purchases arise or the 5% return goes away

>> No.54233899

>>54232412
Nothing wrong with that. Can't go wrong with T bills despite what schizos in other threads will tell you.

>> No.54233903

>>54233884
i do agree with the longer t-bills but i just dont like money sitting locked for that long. i know i can sell before they mature but im just anxious i guess

thx

I think they’re kinda a pain in the ass to sell, and the spread is minimal anyway so go with ur gut fren

>> No.54234119

Very safe investment. But desu t bills are for you emergency money / savings imo not for large investments unless you're t billing with hundreds of thousands
