but how did he get inside the big boys at Reuters etc? surely they weren't as easy to manipulate to get his fawning articles & hit pieces on other exchanges?

Pay them money for "consulting" or "something," or buy very expensive ads in media. Everyone does it. One media company refused to release a puff documentary on my Fortune 100 company project until the company agreed to more ad spend.

Full page ads equate with positive media. I myself ran a project hailed as a "model," by a publication...accompanied by a full page ad, of course.
