Selling a covered call or CSP doesn't have any major risk, and it's easy to get approval from your broker (versus naked options which require the highest level approval. As for selling options, I like to look at the volatility skew (smile and smirk). SPY for example has a volatility smirk. Basically the IV for OTM puts is higher than OTM calls. What this does is give you more premium for selling, and a statistical advantage. Compare the delta 16 premium (1 standard deviation move) for the call and put with SPY at whatever expiration date. You'll see that the put has a higher price. So it would make more sense to sell a put. With a volatility smile, both the put and call will have a higher IV than ATM. So it wouldn't matter if you were selling CC's or CSP's. Figure that out for BOIL and see if there's enough options liquidity (bid/ask spread) to make it worth while. Generally people will do 30 DTE to 45 DTE, and a delta of 10 to 30.

It's a long road
When you face the markets alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find gains
If you search within yourself
And that emptiness you felt
Will disappear
And then a bobo comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your long aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a bobo lies within you.

Jerome knows
Crashing are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away, hey yeah
Hold on
And then a bobo comes along
With the strength to crash it all
And you cast your hope aside
And you know no one can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be short
And you'll finally see the truth
That a bobo lies in you
That a bobo lies in you
Mmm, That a bobo lies in you

The optimal strategy in monopoly is to buy 3-4 houses on properties but never building hotels, since there is a fixed quantity of both. If you have enough houses to wreck the supply, you can cockblock the opponents from building any. Also the properties just after jail are more likely to be landed on. Also "Free Parking" bonus money is a cope used by shitty players for free money, it's not tournament legal.

No problem. Pic related might help. You can see that SPY has a higher IV on the OTM put side. Which means more premium for selling. If you look at the April 21 Exp date (16 delta) on the options chain, the call has a premium of $1.82. And the put has a premium of $3.10. Much more premium.

The put skew also gives you a statistical advantage with price movement. The current SPY price is $391. The 16 delta call strike is $414, and the 16 delta put strike is $361. SPY has to go up $23 to hit the call strike. But has to go down $30 to hit the put strike.

When you're doing pairs trading as a form of arbitrage, yes, it's very quick, and I don't expect to do that. It's more like longing one ticker and shorting another as a form of hedging. Eg, +KO -PEP.
So now you have two separate positions hedging each other. In a simple example, 600 KO should roughly equal 200 PEP (ignoring fees, margin, and ATR/volatility on price movements). This means your portfolio should more or less retain the same value. From there, you can write CCs or CSPs against those positions. Think of it as a wheel strategy, but you're doing it with two tickers that are hedging eachother.
I had the idea today but I'm going to look into it; I later found some post on a forum from 2009 that suggested it only works in sideways markets, which might actually be a benefit right now.
And if you're wondering why KO has an ITM and OTM CC, it's because that leg would be done in a TFSA which doesn't allow CSPs but an ITM CC is a workaround

I went through a Pairs Trading phase long ago, its going to be extremely difficult and overall not worth the effort looking/waiting for Pairs Trading set ups to occur on something like a Daily Chart, but you do you. As for Cash-Secured Puts, they do not function at all like Covered Calls and you cannot write them against shares you already own, it is a separate trade all on its own that requires its own capital. The strategy you are describing in sideways markets is known as an Iron Condor, and it involves being approved for Naked Selling- you short Calls are not covered and your short Puts are no cash-secured. In an Iron Condor you sell both a Naked Call and a Naked Put, then buy a cheaper call above the short call strike and a cheaper put below the short strike to cover your short positions in case trade goes against you- your profit is the total credit collected between the long and short strikes on each end of your trade when all your contracts successfully expire worthless. Totally different than what you are talking about.

>As for Cash-Secured Puts, they do not function at all like Covered Calls and you cannot write them against shares you already own, it is a separate trade all on its own that requires its own capital
Yes, I realize this. Tax-advantaged accounts cannot be short on securities, which means you cannot write CSPs in them. Writing a deep ITM CC against owned shares is functionally equivalent to CSPs, except it has the extra overhead of buying the shares in advance (fees). Otherwise, the risk and payoff is identical (though maybe a few dollars less premium since puts have more IV priced into them)

>it involves being approved for Naked Selling
>your short Calls are not covered and your short Puts are not cash-secured
>then buy a cheaper call above the short call strike and a cheaper put below the short strike to cover your short positions in case trade goes against you
Your short legs are literally hedged by your long legs. You don't need Lv 4 approval to "write naked options" because you only lose on the spread between them. You have defined risk.

Okay so I did a simulation by hand.
I did +600 KO, -200 PEP, which requires about $35,000 in margin. For Apr 21, I wrote a 52.50C for KO and and 195P for PEP. These are both ITM for the respective options. These are priced at/beyond 2SDs of price movement.
It turns out that writing the OTM option legs will result in a loss, since it caps the profit, so we only use the ITM options.
In a tail risk situation, KO drops 12% and hits 2SDs away. Assigned or not, it eats a huge loss, but PEP's short covers the loss, since it should be moving with it. In this case, you still make $320, after accounting for fees.

The risks are early assignment, the two assets moving against each other (eg KO does a retard rally and PEP falls), even one asset not moving while the other does. This is sort of a contrived example since prices should generally stay within 1SD, especially during a 30-day period. I might actually try this on something with a lower price point.

Bonus: The short/put leg could be constructed with long puts, a long position and/or short calls. Eg, it's doable in a TFSA which means no tax implications. In this example it was a $35k margin with a return of $320, which is 0.9% return in 35 days. Annualized, it's about 9.5% in a naive case. Pretty good starting point before I fuck around with it more

Googled it. Sounds volatile but could be good for what I'm looking for.

Also for anyone looking for long investments BRK.A is at 293.

I don't know about you guys but usually I don't pay too much attention to big events. I just look at individual stocks, and so long as they have low debt to equity ratio, some cash flow and they're in a dip relative to their 5 year average (and near the bottom of the yearly average) and a blue chip company then it's all good. Works especially well for avoiding being rugged by gold/silver ETF's

I'm also flirting with an idea of buying some chink stocks which goes against everything I believe in. I'm considering a scenario where china benefits from a downturn in western financial system. Lots of their stocks appear cheap (appear because I have little trust in integrity of their books).
At the moment I'm considering 2 stocks:
- HOLI - tech company with -$600m net debt at $1b market cap. profitable + revenue went up last year and quarter
- TIGR - made money on it 2 years ago, now it sits around $3 again and people seem scared to touch it due to issues with chinese regulators. would have to figure out how real those issues are. Overall they are profitable again which could attract investors again and result in another pump

So I'm getting another 6% raise come july. Which is great. My pension will go up. But all that's doing is working towards restoring my salary to it's 2022 level. Prior to 2023 I didn't have my Wife on my company health plan so once I added her when January hit my salary took a "cut". Now finance wise this didn't hurt any. Spending, budget still very much covered even with the "cut". But still. Green go up not down and all that. Also I'd rather have her covered by the plan with it's benefits than you know something happen and "OMG look at that whammy doctor bill" when it hits the mailbox. And they tell me "Hey Donald, the pivot is coming! Rate cuts end of year! Oh the banks! Won't somebody think about the poor banks!". Can you believe that? What a disaster, a total mess. Banks have a lot of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us. And it's actually a very simple solution. Very simple. Probably the simplest solution I've ever seen. No bailouts. And let me hike the rates. Let me hike them. Because believe me, I will get you a better deal. We're gonna hike the rates so high you're never gonna want to invest in stocks ever again. We have Trump's arrest on Tuesday and FOMC on Wednesday. And probably more bank fuckery on Monday.

Friday showed signs of QQQ finally weakening. I think we can get a good tech flush soon. Too many bulls there.

Where can I get real time IV data on specific options. And how can I run statistical analysis like Bollinger bands on an IV chart? Schwab street smart edge only has a chart addon for the IV of puts and calls overall on a daily basis for any particular stock. I'm looking to spot +2 or 3 standard deviation moves on IV and sell those but I don't think retail goys have access to the software. I hear thinkorswim has a lot more features than sse. What's the redpill here?

bhs was great because it taught people about junior miners (that they're uninvestable even when they're serious, and that most, like bhs, are "lifestyle companies", not actual companies; also to never invest in canadian venture stocks no matter what).
No clue how anyone fell for garbage don, though. But bhs is the miner equivalent of the oil ship companies around the time of the negative oil memes: those also looked good on paper and based on macros, but in fact every single one of those companies (doubly so for the greek ones) are scummy scams, and people again needed to learn that the hard way.
