Most things that are made of metal, glass, or pottery can last a lifetime, and therefore it's reasonable to spend extra on those to get top quality. Tools, cookware, flatware, tableware, drinkware, exercise equipment (weights).

"BIFL" books are something I have learned about recently. Sewn-bound books with archival quality paper and ink can survive a lifetime of regular reading, whereas glue-bound books will fall apart. Folio Society is a publisher known for extremely high quality production.

Any type of textiles are prone to wear and degradation over the years, though some will be better than others and it depends on the item. High quality leathers like Saddleback etc will last a very very long time if cared for. Items that get relatively little abrasive wear, like a Tilley hat, can last a lifetime. For most other clothing I think quality is more about comfort and fit rather than durability, but it depends how you use the product. Socks, underwear, pants and shirts tend to wear out due to abrasion. Cold weather jackets can be made durable enough to last pretty much forever.

String instruments can last a lifetime with maintenance: guitars, violins, etc.

Certain board games like chess, checkers, go, will never wear out.

But individual tool-quality depends on the place of manufacture, Japanese Makita is best, but they also have plants in Germany, UK, Romania and China (for the cheap stuff).

Real tools, like Delta woodworking machinery, are things that you will want for yourself and that will go to the estate sale for $300 when you die because your kids won’t have the same interests that you do. Buy what you want and can afford now. The items that survive the trip to “making it” are the ones you should get others of after you make it.
