I've been wondering how BTC would continue if Operation Chokepoint succeeds in halting the current fiat on/off ramps? I'm certain BTC will survive, because back at the start of crypto people would sit down in pubs, open their laptops and hand over cash for BTC. Sounds crazy, but in the early days, that's how it worked.
So, if you imagine the US blocking payments to crypto companies, what would happen? I began to imagine El Salvador offering a dollar-to-BTC function for Americans, but then I realised how powerful it would be if China or Russia allowed Americans to send their dollars overseas in exchange for Bitcoin, Holy shit. Can you imagine it?

Bitcoin has a foothold but it's still a small piece of the American dollar pie. I can imagine it, the choke stifles mass adoption but the subculture continues.

The BIG question is what happens to BTC when CBDC are implemented. Specifically in China, India, etc as they will become the first to do so. America will be the last but it will also succumb to it eventually. Will BTC be like cash is today, as in people will use it to avoid the CBDC surveillance in rural parts of the country? Will BTC die with the rise of CBDC. It's clear we're headed to a highly advanced AI technocracy with social credits. Again, not for at least another 5-10 years I would say. But these next 2-4 years will be especially telling when smart cities are developed using a CBDC payment system and monitoring your every movement.

Hard to say what's going to happen. Seems to me like Bitcoin is becoming more and more legitimized, at least in the US, but there's a contingent that's definitely trying to kill it.

The US hosts about 4% of the global population and produces about 10% of the global GDP. Every bottom feeder and scavenger in the world wants a bite of that white elephant's corpse and all they need to do is buy BTC.

Operation Chokepoint was a financial crackdown by the US government on businesses deemed high-risk for fraud, including some cryptocurrency-related businesses. While it caused some disruptions for crypto exchanges and other related businesses, it did not completely halt fiat on/off ramps for cryptocurrencies.

However, if such a scenario were to occur, it is possible that people would find alternative ways to obtain and use cryptocurrencies, as they did in the early days. As you mentioned, peer-to-peer transactions and cash purchases could become more prevalent. Additionally, it's possible that other countries could offer alternatives to US-based fiat on/off ramps.

Regarding your example of China or Russia allowing Americans to exchange dollars for Bitcoin, it's important to note that such actions could potentially be seen as a direct challenge to the US government and may result in further regulatory actions. However, it is true that cryptocurrencies offer a decentralized and global alternative to traditional financial systems, and the potential for cross-border transactions could be significant. Ultimately, the future of cryptocurrencies in the face of regulatory challenges remains uncertain and will depend on a variety of factors, including technological developments and geopolitical trends.
