what would realistically happen in the US if someone making sub-six figures just didnt file their taxes? i find it hard to believe that an IRS agent would come to my house saying "pay up or else," like they dont seriously care about someone making 70k a year, right?

The IRS can drain your bank account and they'll send you a letter later after they've already done it.

It's called tax fraud, the government has an entire agency dedicated to finding out who hasn't paid taxes and they usually go to prison.

Sorry anon this is the sweet spot of enforcement. You're not a broke bitch so it's worth going after, but you aren't rich enough to do anything about them raping your asshole. Pay your taxes wagie.

>Your money goes through a bank
They know and will hunt you down. You can shoot them if you want, but juries are cucked so you'll still get the death penalty.
>Your money doesn't go through a bank
You can do it as long as you want until you slip up and cash out through a bank for convenience. Lots of people live a cash-only life without getting busted.

Its NOT tax fraud. Im from switzerland. Didnt fill in a report last year. Got fined 300$ and my income was declared as the existential living expenses... Also getting a fine is not getting convicted, so i didnt need to go to jail for not paying it.. its a diff if you pretend to be a lazy retard that forgotts to do its paper than a person who activelly comits fraud. Also tax evasion isnt that bad also. Tax fraud is what gets you into prison

So have you dodged your taxes in previous years too? If so, you might be getting a nasty letter from the IRS saying pay up for all the missed years' taxes + interest (the interest is monstrous on missed taxes too)

You already pay taxes as it gets withheld from your paycheck. You filing just corrects any over/under payment. They will garnish your social security or just not pay you any refund in the future if you owe money.

I didn't file franchise tax for one quarter and they froze all of my accounts and cards for two weeks. They don't have to come after you, they can just break your legs until you pay up. Finding W2 employees that don't file is piss-easy and automated, you'd be the stupidest criminal ever if you tried tax evasion that way.

Grounz and lawful law pilled.

>> No.54098557

How much untaxed income do you have? If you made $70k on a W2 with remotely correct withholding then they're not going to come arrest you, but the mere act of not filing sets off a flag that gets them to start looking at your accounts for undeclared income and then come after you for that. If they don't actually perform this check for several years and then find income you will get battered by interest and penalties.

If you're trying to avoid paying on a 1099 or something: They will immediately notice and send you a bill that will be much higher than what you would pay from filing a return.

This.
If you don't file they send a letter reminding you to file, then send another one, then the third time they just send you a tax bill based upon your income offset by only a standard deduction, whereby if you were to dispute it, you would have to file to reconcile the amounts.
Just file and pay through a cpa and you'll sleep well....I've dealt with the IRS before and they garnished my wages at work, ...I finally filed and they ended up stopping the garnish and actually owed me a few dollars.
