Why Junk Silver?

Constitutional silver (hereafter referred to as "junk," though it is anything but) is perfect for stacking. Autists may go after 30/40% cheapies, but the only junk I am concerned about is that sweet sweet 90% goodness.

Fractional for cheap -- Best value as of this posting is about 17.8x face value, or ~$24.92/ozt. Cheapest fractional .999 are secondary market half ouncers for $26.84/ozt. DO NOT buy junk from major online retailers, they stiff you on the price for anything less than $100fv. Find an LCS or online trading forum.

Recognizability -- Everyone knows what a quarter looks like. Dollars/halves/Mercury dimes have a bit of a higher premium, but there are still older people around who remember taking their sweetheart to the malt shoppe and paying for dinner with a pocket full of silver. In the event of the financial apocalypse, people will still recognize old coinage, and those that don't will learn quickly. If worse comes to worst, you can still spend it for face value.

Fungibility -- It's easy to do the math if you remember a few figures. 1 dollar in pre-1964 silver coinage contains 0.714 troy ounces of pure silver nectar. $1.4fv in coinage contains almost exactly a full ounce, or as close enough so as to make no difference. A dime and a quarter are 1/4 ounce. A halve and 2 dimes are 1/2 ounce. Or give the man a tip and just hand him 3 quarters. Easy to do the math on the fly if you're making change.

Divisibility -- Let's say SHTF and silver pops to $300/ozt. You're walking down the street with a couple 1oz coins jingling in your pocket, feeling like the king of the world. (Because you're the local warlord.) You see a man selling eggs. Are you going to walk home with 600 eggs minus one of your buffalos? Or would you rather give the man a dime for his goods, and then his wife and her questionably aged daughter another dime for their services?

If silver is the money of Gentlemen, then Constitutional is the working man's money.

2. This is addressed. Reading past the first sentence is clearly too difficult for you.

If you can find it for cheap then silver is silver. But you won't have nearly the same recognizability. Constitutional is that sweet spot of easy to verify/easy to offload for me. I recently bought some Canadia dollaridoos, but those are 80% and mostly for personal collection.

r/pmsforsale is my preferred method since I don't get to stop by my LCS often. They've regularly had quarters for 17.5x for the last month.Think the average is 18x now. But my LCS prices are currently around 17.9x, and he sells mercs for the same price as quarters so I always scoop up a couple rolls whenever I'm in town. There's a bit of luck involved in finding a good LCS but after that it comes down to building a relationship.

i forgot to add: the US economy is a house of cards that needs to fail to recover, but it WILL recover. fundamentally the US occupies the best land on the entire earth. there are several markers of success that determine whether a country may be a great power. things like large navigable rivers, fertile land, easy access to the sea, safety from invasion etc. most countries only have 1 of these markers if that, the US has all of them, and the best of them in the world.
I despise the abject doomerism that i see here sometimes. yes things will be chaotic for a while, but the grass IS greener on the other side.

It's obvious that degrading commodities are taken into consideration, so expect checks and time limits when shipping internationally. None of the BRICS nations want a single commodity ruling everything as it doesn't allow for effective economic fluctuations. Doing this commodity system will shift expenses on the fly to other commodities when needed. No doubt every country will have a bit of everything in their stockpiles, so if there are problems with a certain product down the line, doing international deals and shipping can be done extremely fast. This also prevents ransoming commodities as no one will have an outright monopoly. BRICS can only win if it is better than the Petrodollar model.

This is very true, which is why I am also focusing on good farmland. China has virtually none of these markers, while Russia is frozen for half of the year. (Subject to change.) The possibility of complete collapse in the US is not zero, but this really is the land of milk and honey, which is why it needs to be vigorously defended.

Europe is fucked though.

US sanctions are just one factor. Another is that China is the factory of the world and OPEC see more wealth and prosperity from the eastern bloc than they do from the western over the next half a century. >China is the factory of the world
that is ending very quickly. wages in china have risen by 1000% and now it is often cheaper to manufacture in Mexico or the US proper after you cut out oversea transportation.
China is also running out of factory workers due to the fallout of the 1 child policy. their population is slated to half by 2100, but likely will earlier. the Chinese are fucked.
Only the United states has the ability to be the world superpower (against the will of the US people usually). Once the US goes back into Isolation there will be no superpowers and the world will go back to a regional power system.

Have plans for food, water, shelters, etc. and even evacuating your residence temporarily.
Odds are you will have to survive without normal supply chains to reach the point where your PMs are worth trading even a little of.
As for being avoided, yes, if Adam had chosen wisely. This is the truth not are all yet prepared to accept.

Putting aside designs (especially if they're good and made in low numbers) that might rise in value over the years, having designs people are more likely to trust as real is something to consider.
Maybe make 1/4 to 1/2 of your first PM purchases the typical coin from your country's mint. Then you can go for cheapies for the rest, getting the best of both worlds just in case.
Your other option is to get a Sigma Metalytics or XRF scanner, solar power enough to power it if you believe you may have to prove the validity of your cheap-as-possible PMs in the future.
Granted, there are things like ping tests for coins/rounds, specific gravity, acid test kits, etc. Much cheaper, but not as quick.

Take the time to compare at APMEX, Monument Metals, JM Bullion, Silver Gold Bull, CPMX even.
The best thing would be to google for local coin shops, check their websites and call them for info. Ask how they verify their PMs and they ought to accommodate scanning the PMs for you before the final purchase.
I speak from recent experience. I bought local after looking around and being fortunate enough to find local shops.
>cheapies
I just mean the lowest price per troy ounce. But that usually means rounds (1 ouncers that aren't made by a government's mint) or bars which government mints do make, but they aren't as divisible so there's the risk of not being able to sell it when you need to since someone isn't capable or willing to buy all of those ounces at one time. Very experienced people will have had time to research ways around that, but you're pretty new.

Shanghai Gold Exchange requires their gold to be minimum 99.99% purity
They also require that other trace elements do not pass definite thresholds. Refer pic.
This means in practice that you must purify your gold to 99.995% or higher to account for any potential imbalances within these thresholds.
Perth mint supplied gold with more than 0.05% of silver (yet still being above 99.99% gold), that contained less lead, antimony, etc.
A indeterminate number of bars were alleged to have been doped, yet were not returned by SGE.

4, but it's better than winging it like most everyone else.
I have food and weapons.
Funnily enough I think things are better socially than people think. Most of the ills in our society are from lack of hardship. Once the real hard times roll in all the annoying shit will fall to the wayside.
If you live in the US, UK and AU and are here you'll be okay. You might have to point a gun at people sometimes for the next few years but otherwise you'll be just fine.

Sometimes. They may have something that isn't available elsewhere. Also, they used to have decent prices.

In the meantime... I just noticed those bastards at Germania did something especially cruel to may wallet. 'The' 2023 design is actually a set of four - you have to buy progressively more massive and absurdly high-premium rounds to complete the series.

C is likely. I think the past 50 years have been showing increasingly large cracks in our military. Endemic corruption, questionable equipment, poor results, low morale, incompetent senior officers. I actually don’t think famine is super likely. Dictatorship is a maybe. But frankly, depending on what the dictator says, I may just support him.

1. Yes. I’m gonna play it safe and say before 2100.
2. B and C will trigger A, which will trigger E.
3. Probably, yes. More sound money management, and less risk taking. And dissolve the United States in a peaceful agreement similar to Czechoslovakia.
4. The moneyed class.
5. Nothing in the past fifty years would make a huge difference. I guess if I could wave a wand, I’d have January 6th result in the creation of a provisional government, and the arrest, trial, and sentencing of the entirety of congress.
6. A four. My personal take on gold and silver is that it is to personal finance what a conceal carry is to personal security. Hope you don’t have to use it.
7. Honestly, enduring hardship. Get adjusted to being cold, tired, wet, hungry. If you mean physical resources? PPE, and ammo. Maybe a bit of non perishable foods. Solar power. Knowing the location of nearby water sources. Having a vague idea of what plants you can eat.
8. A three. I regard this country as a sinking ship. Get what you can, and get to a lifeboat.
9. Precious metals are less of an investment than an insurance policy. Don’t expect returns. Expect that when shit goes tits up, maybe that Mercury dime will buy you some eggs from the local amish militias.

most expensive one I paid £18 for. Least expensive £15. Mixture of bids and buy it nows. I tend to bid on ones at the last minute if its at a low enough price and just let it go if it goes beyond what I want to pay. Occasionally some doofus will put one up buy it now not realising what it's worth and i'll snap it up. But yeah they're becoming a bit less easy to find lately at least here anyway (I don't buy from abroad)

a 2 reichsmark will have a diameter of 25mm, which would make it a bit larger than a quarter. a 5 reichsmark will have a diameter of 29mm making it just a bit smaller than a half dollar. the thickness from 2rm to 5rm is from 2.15mm to 2.5mm also, so they'd both be thicker than a nickel.

If I was starting again I’d like to think I’d just buy boxes of Britannias. But then I wouldn’t have meme coins or a shrek.
