Banks coming
Banks coming out
Banks cumming
Banks Cumming OUT

Now, who's insolent who/s not?
Tell me what bank's out, whats not?
You tell me bank flopped, who copped the blue drop?
Whose gold and useless rocks
Who's mostly Dolce down to the red stocks?
You know ain't nothin' change but my limp dick
Can't stop 'til I see my dick on a blimp
Guarantee a million sales, call it love or luck

I don't know what the fed wants from me
It's like the more money I come across
The more banks fail
It's like the more money I come across
The more problems I see
I don't know what the fed is doing
It's like the more money I come across
The more banks starts running

If you have your money parked in a bank similar to SVB, what's stopping you from taking out your money right now to avoid the same problem?

I unironically believe the bank runs have already started. So much money is moving out from these regional banks to the big ones that it's putting pressure on Wells Fargo's online banking. That's why it keeps going down.

If their plan was to mitigate this scenario I think it's too late.

while everything you said is true, the public is retarded, and after seeing bank failure that wasn't bailed out, they will be more likely, on margin, to pull out their funds and deposit it at a more 'safe' institution
this will put pressure on the banks, regardless of how serious the initial failure was, and also put the market at odds with the Fed raising rates to fight inflation with the resulting inflows to treasuries / bonds

Nice thanks for taking a look at this random SMID cap banker. Lol.
>My main concern is that they've got customers holding $1.3 bil in short term CDs at an average yield of 2.4%. I assume these customers were going after a reasonably competitive rate at their time of purchase, but it can't compete with current t-bills. Outside of CDs, their other deposits actually shrunk by 7% year over year.

Well I guess that's a sign Jpow is doing his job? That is a concern, but not a salient one imo. (I most likely know about banks way less than you do, im trying to larp as an L/S generalist here)

But I don't think that customers are going to run for the exits even if HIFS can't compete with t-bills.

Robert Gaughen has been CEO for 28 years, and in financials, retaining wisdom over these boom-bust economic cycles is integral. HIFS has great longevity, high local depository share (something really good for value bank names), low efficiency ratio (means the banks stock benefits from low opex), healthy insider shareholder base, and allocation between divs+buybacks+retained earnings.

I am bullish on HIFS not because I'm some mega autist who can analyze borderline black-box 350 page bank 10-k filings, but because HIFS is a boomer Buffet style company that has the know-how to navigate through recessions with earnings that are consistently returned to shareholders (shareholders such as retards like me)

You add on top of the 5% bonds annualized return. It will trigger regional banks to fail. Nobody is keep money in the bank yielding 0%.

>Due to the appearance of inverted yield curves, which have not been seen since the 1980's, people will be reminded of the Savings and Loan (S&L) crisis of that time.

>To address the S&L crisis, the U.S. federal government enacted the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act of 1989 (FIRREA).

>FIRREA was created to address the failures of many S&Ls and to stabilize the financial system.

>FIRREA had several key provisions, including:

>1. Establishment of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) to manage the assets of failed S&Ls and facilitate their resolution.

>2. Increase in the regulatory oversight of financial institutions, including the creation of the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) to oversee S&Ls and the Federal Deposit Insurance >Corporation (FDIC) to insure bank deposits.

>3. Creation of the Federal Housing Finance Board to oversee the activities of the Federal Home Loan Bank System.

>4. Provisions for enhanced criminal penalties for fraud and other white-collar crimes related to financial institutions.

>Overall, FIRREA aimed to address the weaknesses in the regulatory and supervisory framework that had contributed to the S&L crisis. The law was instrumental in stabilizing the S&L industry and laying the groundwork for the continued development of a more robust financial regulatory system in the United States.

Nope, Thiel & co coordinated their pullout. VC's in the know got their money out and moved on to greener pastures, the rest got fucked.

Lol?
Founders Fund acted in other ways to move its business away from SVB. On Thursday, as the bank was beginning to unravel, the firm started what’s known as a capital call. That’s a run-of-the-mill activity in the venture capital world, in which a VC firm asks its investors, or limited partners, to send it money in order to make investments in startups — the core function of most VC firms. It began by asking those backers to transfer the funds to accounts at SVB, as it has done for years, the person said.

But the firm learned that its limited partners were encountering issues using SVB services as they tried to transfer the funds — they weren’t immediately going through as expected, the person said.

Quickly, Founders Fund asked its investors to transfer the money to other banks instead. The fund acted to ensure that startup funding deals that were slated to close in the coming days were not delayed, the person said.

A major risk when dealing with fixed rates is duration risk.
When some bank like SVB goes balls deep into 10y treasuries at 1.2% rates, the duration is pretty high because most of the money is locked up in the return at par upon maturity. They're only collecting the 1.2% per year in the years before that.
Then treasuries spike to 4% and they get fucked in the ass. Those old 10y bonds trade down because no one is going to pay the full face value for 1.2% yield when they can now get 4% yield.
Even if the assets are underwater, banks can operate perfectly fine as long as the income exceeds the cost of deposits. It's only once the costs exceed the interest income, or they run into liquidity issues that problems start.

The same sort of pricing risks apply to mortgages, although there are also some differences.
Typical fixed mortgages have a lower effective duration than you might intuitively think. Closer to 10 years than 30 years. It's because they're paid down to zero over the 30 year period.
With Hingham though, they were smart enough to see through the bullshit of ZIRP it seems, so they've been heavily focused on growing their commercial lending where the standard is shorter duration adjustable rate mortgages. ~70% of their assets either mature or reprice within 5 years. The repricing event resets the rate, so you can think of the loan as having a shorter risked duration.

See the image for some more details on specific intervals.

They've also run their own models, although you shouldn't necessarily fully trust these things. It's just an estimate:
>The most recent model estimates that, over a twenty-four month period, net interest income would decrease 25% if rates rise 100 basis points and would decrease 51% if rates rise 200 basis points

I have an ant farm. Any time I lose 1% porfolio value, I add a spider to my ant farm. If I lose too much in a day, the spiders will be able to overtake the ants. So far the spiders fall every time, but the ants are suffering casualties.

Soon.

yes, but let's be honest with ourselves. You aren't only going to make a $72 bet.

You can also lose that $72 even if the stock hits the strike price because that premium is you paying for time.

why do people in the us stock market believe in sort of divine justice / punishment narratives and make the Fed sound ? Bank of canada hikes, then pauses, no parade. Bank of australia hikes, and then hikes, no one jumps out of the window. Bank of England hikes, buys bonds, hurray. The Fed hikes.... and people think god has come down to punish us for our sins (high returns)

I will now attempt to describe options.

Options are valued upon a set of different variables(the greeks) that are dynamic and to a large degree relative to each other. This means that it is indeed a zero sum game, in fact it is less than this, the house always wins. In order to profit with options, your bets must be correct to the degree that they are more accurate than the forecasted valuations of the greeks, in addition to the bearish or bullish behavior of the market.

I see, thank you for explaining this rate sensitivity banking jargon. This is why bank investing is a black box for a lot of investors, but it looks like you've been able to look under the hood and see that their assets mature favorably (5 years) as opposed to SVIB who had their money locked up in long-term treasuries like the 10y

Am i getting that right?

HIFS have their money in short term treasury bills as opposed to long term bonds like SVIB did?

One such example: https://image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/10888605 where Section 4, line 27 covers semaglutide's use for obesity. Note that this list of patents is explicitly for Wegovy (obesity), separate from Ozempic (diabeetus).

Which isn't to say there isn't competition in the space (from, say, LLY's Mounjaro) but it's not like they're trying to profit off bog standard insulin or something.
