54026056 No.54026056 [Reply] [Original]

I remember when we had our first bull rally
Saying, "This is it, we going to the moon
But hadn't seen each other in over a year
When you said you needed more margin
Then the bears come around again and say
"Baby, I miss you and I swear I'm gonna crash it, trust me
Remember how that lasted for a day?
I say, "we crashing," we break down, you call me, "I hate you"

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Bulls called me again last night..
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
This time, I'm telling you, I'm telling you
[Chorus]
We are never, ever, ever getting another bull run
We are never, ever, ever getting green
You go talk to your bears, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never, ever, ever, ever getting a bull market
Like, ever

I'm really gonna miss the bears fighting the bulls
And me falling for it, screaming that we rally we crash we make up we go up we go down

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Bulls called me up again tonight, but
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
This time, I'm telling you, I'm telling you
This we we are never ever getting a bull market
like ever ever ever ever again.

after about 3 years of trading options and losing the majority of my trades, I'm finally starting to make more good calls than bad. I had a few trades that would have made 100%+ but I've slowly trained myself to take profits instead of riding them out. Feels good though and I go purely off gut rather than any technical analysis. Fed has to come out this weekend or pre market monday to make sure there’s no contagion simply due to fear
They created this liquidity issue by bending the treasury curve into this fucked up inversion that kills banks.
They regulated banks so they have to keep HQLA in these awful treasuries that are bleeding value, while also crashing the money supply.
We’re gonna end up with only Jpm and bofa left

TMF going up implies short-term bonds (which is what the government sets the rate on when they do rate increases) is no longer desirable to bond holders, so they're swapping to longer-dated bonds. This implies the market believes bond rates will actually go DOWN instead of merely not as high.

It depends a lot on where you're located as well, and beyond lifestyle, there's the question of life goal. For example, if my goal in life is to make a biology homelab, I'll need to accumulate a lot more than a few dozen thousands a year in saving. But if my goal is just to have a small farm with self-subsistence in mind, that will be more than enough.

I'm starting to think the phenomena of the past year of "good news is bad news and bad news is good news" is now finally going to uninvert as people start realizing "oh fuck, maybe higher unemployment, falling revenues and higher cost of borrowing isn't actually bullish and is literally destroying large banks as we speak" and people continue selling off.

In simplest terms, you can think of the face value of bonds as the same as the price of a stock, and yields as the dividends. Only difference is, imagine a stock with a dividend, where every time the dividend goes up, the price of the stock goes down, and this is what solely drives the price action of the stock. This is how bonds work. The yield of the bond goes up, and its face value goes down; the face value goes up, the yield goes down. This is due to the supply and demand of the bond which, like stocks, the less people wanting a bond or holding a bond, the more the face value declines (and the yield goes up), and the more people wanting or holding the bond the more the face value goes up (and the yield declines). This equilibrium between these bond yield and face value inverted movements is maintained by a certain set of mathematics that makes sure the bond is able to return the entire payment plus proper interest to the buyer of the bond that he is entitled to on the bond's maturity date.

Yield curve is a reading of the economy. If long term treasury yields are high and short term are low then people are betting the economy will grow. Currently short end has a ton of yield while the long term is low because people believe that long term growth will be stalled due to rape hikes. They're still holding those long term treasuries instead of selling them. Because banks love pain. Banks aren't even able to offer rates as good as the fed because their yield generation is so low.

>i don't agree with the "its da joos" hypthesis, but i do think he is definitely just a face for a committee. the perpetual loss averse psychology screams politburo central committee style rulership as opposed to personal leadership.
Yeah. Like you have Ron Klain/Jeff Zients and Janet Yellen and Anthony Blinken and Chuck Schumer so it's maybe 50% da joos in terms of controlling levers of power.

It's up in the air whether the Silicon VCs get their $10m accounts bailed out. But the treasury will 100% print any necessary funds to save Joe Blow's $10k account at Nebraska Cowfuck Bank if the FDIC runs dry.

there are plenty of historical examples of weak rulers who simply are the face for a more powerful council behind the throne being procrastinators and loss averse without having to call on that theory. you can believe what you like, I'm just saying for me, he's just a weak leader with a pattern of overcommitting.

It really depends on CPI and PCE. If they come in red hot again, Powell will have to do 50 bps if he really wants to fight inflation. He wants layoffs, so he’s probably happy that SVB employees need to find new jobs now

Not actively stepping in to save rich VCs is very different from the Feds actively reneging on a simple, stated promise. Take a moment to think through what would happen if Biden's senility struck and he suggested they just say "sorry, Joe Blow, FDIC's empty. We aren't actually going to guarantee your checking account."

If you guess "nationwide bank runs", "a collapse of the global financial system", and "JP Morgan sicks Baggie on him within 15 minutes", you'd be correct.

It makes more sense to refer to bonds as "cents on the dollar" than as a whole aggregate position.
