Some of these legends say that it's an "inoculation" of knowledge and that some people just get it and some people just don't, I didn't want to believe this for the longest time but I explained my process to friends and family and very few get a grasp of the idea behind the process, and idk if anyone understands on a deeper level... I guess a part of it is experience in spotting the big picture through making mistakes too (I've been in the market for 7 years now)
my initial idea to get to this list was simple: look at people with long ass great track records, do most have a similar process? what is it?
and that got me to this list
with a small amount of money you can do a more quantitative value approach on low floats but the big money and big safety is really in quality assessment which computers are incapable of
I started out with yfinance (github) and japanese tickers the first 2-3 years before getting a better understanding of industries by thoroughly reading annual reports during that time, the recent bank and natural gas buys were pretty obvious, shallow markets aren't really that efficient

I don't want to manage money for other people, I've done it for a few years for my father and it was the biggest mistake I ever made even though my CAGR was 4% higher than the index with way less volatility. It was much more work for way lower returns than what I make for myself, I did it for him and didn't ask for anything in return, but he still got angry about the volatility (I don't have contact with my family anymore and I realised I grew up in an abusive toxic family)
I realised don't care much about money now that I make enough to do my own thing, so I'd rather keep to myself and not feel in service or in debt to anyone

*Very* good, that health is even more valuable than the money. I'm ~50 and got rugged by Great Recession and the aftereffects in my personal life (it led to divorce and homelessness thanks to a perfect storm including debt I'd used to build the business that 09 heemed). I was finally starting to figure out a pretty decent path out of it within my means when a sudden health issue hit and made it to where I can't physically function in order to carry it out, so now I'm trying to figure out how to leverage what little I have with stocks (after picking 5 winning race horses for my son who is in a stocks program while in school, all 5 survived 2022 in the green relative to original purchase). I had gotten myself to feeling as strong as I had in many years and then there it hit out of nowhere, so health alone is one of the most crucial factors as to essentially everything. I definitely could have taken better care of mine in younger years.

What you have right now, definitely do not go lax in keeping it up, but also remember this...no matter what happens to you negative, no matter if any or all of that gets taken away in life, never give up, never give in to despair, and just *always* figure out how you can stay in the game with whatever it is that you *do* have, no matter how "little" that is in the conventional sense. Count blessings, not curses.

I have never been offered a takeover before: if I don't reply that means I am refusing the offer for my vote? Because the only option is to "accept" on the form there is no "decline". I've got a looong way to go to get to that point of understanding. My son got into the program and needed to choose his stocks and I wanted to help him make the absolute most of the opportunity. This was early 2021 and I didn't know much of anything at all. I read the materials of the program, not understanding hardly any of it, and just started looking at the charts on Google Finance. The only numbers I paid any attention to were P/E ratios, which I tried to keep to 15 or less. Just that and autism power on the charts picked those 5 winning longs (he has to hold them till the program ends, but has had 2 opportunities to choose one to sell and then pick a replacement since then). After watching them gain during 2022 while the S&P 500 kept dropping and dropping (all of his are that index) I realized I'd done beddy decent and figured I'd best start trying to learn some actual stuff about it. I have picked up a tons of bits and pieces from seeing things mentioned here, read a lot of Investopedia and brokerage learning pages, but it's incredibly difficult for me to fully grasp and internalize a lot of things. I understand what you mean there though, that if you really figure out a winning company to invest in, their fundamentals will support that move, often enough. I've watched his every single day since Feb 2021 and watched them hold strong through an incredible storm (the whole of 2022).

It's all politics. Democrats had full control of house + senate for 2 years and they still didn't pass shit except a few EV rebates.
Now you get Biden pushing some of the most moronic policy when they don't even control the house.

The whole point is to get some clickbait headline about helping the common man and make the other side look bad. None of our politicians want to tax capital gains because all their own income also comes from capital gains.
The truth is they're just gonna let inflation continue to run wild as a stealth tax against the middle class.

better to get cash and re-invest it rather than the company burning the money on some garbage acquisition or project

really, I posted a link in this thread, go there and start reading publications from those people. That's all there is to it. Benjamin graham will teach you accounting, schloss graham and li lu will teach you balance sheet analysis, early buffett partnership letters will teach that too
nick sleep will teach you about quality and to an extent peter thiel (zero to one) and jeff bezos (early amazon annual reports) will teach you about quality too
I only look at full-history charts to look at what annual reports I should read first, major price movements on a given year are always clearly explained in the annual report following the major price movement whether it's up or down

>>53989795
well I haven't read any annual reports and the numbers aren't obviously attractive to me
I don't know how their business operates but I'll tell you this: one time I looked at an attractive japanese company who appeared to be in the same situation as this company (shitty furniture and decoration sales)
so they instead scrapped 90% of their shops, leased warehouses instead and marketed towards event companies and businesses
so they rented out all this office furniture and had replacement policies in place (depreciated office furniture gets renewed) and sold the used ones second hand
they did this for the event companies too, they organise parties for businesses and weddings and whatnot and provide custom interior design to the clients, so same business model as the office furniture and sell secondhand after they're done with it
it's brilliant, and the stock of course followed increased earnings
I didn't buy because I found something better at the time, related to digitisation of the gambling industry which increased profit margins by cutting overhead

>How do I profit from this?
I am going to tell you how you profit from this information in this post.
You will invest in level II data so you can read tick by tick order flow, and see exactly how many shares are trading and at what price.
The best option for a newfag trader is WeBull, as it is only $1.99 a month - cheaper than the competitors with a solid interface + good charts
With this new gained information, new ability to look at how trades are actually going through, whether it's big orders, small orders, retail orders, etc, you will gain huge perspective in the markets, which will greatly increase your profit over your lifetime.
I don't know a single (successful) trader who doesn't look at level II
You're welcome, newfag(s)
and in case you're too dense to understand why I am posting this picture in response to your question, it's because no volume of shares traded - it doesn't matter whatsoever when it's only 1,000 shares trading
if it was hundreds of thousands of shares+ trading after hours and it was up, then it would matter and be "real"

>> No.53990225

Yes. Dividend irrelevance is about how dividends are not relevant in portfolio selection, not counting trading costs and taxes. They're certainly a relevant component of a stock's return.
>and banks with dividends re-invested outperform
In fact, dividend-paying stocks (not just bank stocks) have outperformed on average. But this was not because of the dividend. It was because, historically, dividends are statistically correlated with the value and quality factors.

And then he'll name drop a bunch of successful investors. No actual principals, not that learning some basic quotes will make anyone rich anyway.
>buy when there is blood in the streets
ok.

You could also just do the math on his claimed 4% CAGR over "the index". Assume SPY which is running ~10% since 2016. That time period would put him at age 22-29. 4% edge makes for 14% returns, or a +150% return on initial investment. As a fresh college grad in tech, savings rates tend to increase rapidly the first few years assuming no lifestyle creep. That would put money-weighted returns likely closer to ~70%. Someone who randomly bought NVDA in December is up more than that right now. It's a solid profit but certainly not enough to retire and live off passive investment while making 1 trade per year max.

It takes multiple decades and a much better CAGR than 14% to see material outperformance vs SPY, to the point that it would show meaningful impact to any of the small 6 or 7 fig ports around here.
There is much more alpha in active trading and identifying probable winners over a 6-12 month timeframe than passive analysis of value/quality companies.

As a profitable trader myself, I can however offer a real example of a winning pick. I've mentioned it before as evidenced in the archive: VIST. Up ~300% since my initial buys back in Dec 2021.

All things being equal, if the market was truly a random walk (it isn't), you could flip a coin and be just as likely to succeed on trades. What matters the most is risk management, trade psychology, and position sizing. Especially the risk management. Once you have those established, you can be a successful trader long term.
Since the method of entry doesn't really matter you could just as well use astrology (I actually follow the ideas of the Benner Cycle since it makes tangible sense)

>he'll give endless excuses why he can't offer a single real example of past success
It's also tricky because if you found success, why the fuck would you share it? Arbitrage would remove any kind of edge you have if people could replicate it easily. Similarly, every trader is unique. We could follow the exact same system and have two completely different results end of year due to psychological trade differences

Anyways thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Yeah if you look where the confluence is at, where the support line and the trendline meet at 157.13, it has months for the chart to extend out there on the way down before it finally touches that corner as support. because accrual accounting doesn't represent real world value, cash based accounting does
but cash based accounting is shit at keeping track of records
the true value of your business at a certain point in the future is the liquidation value which is cash based
to buy a company you put cash in, and you can only pay yourself and reinvest into the business with cash
another example is doubtful receivables: take airbnb for example, they're never gonna see the full amount of receivables kept on the balance sheet in cash. This should be discounted in your balance sheet analysis, securities analysis has a page that explains this with an example (see image)

Everyone that thinks they've found a winner is incentivized to share it once they've built a full position. If others agree, they'll follow in buying and the value increases. Then once the opportunity has shrunk, the original investor could consider selling and jumping onto a new idea.
Naturally there are some examples where this isn't true: Think nanocaps with no liquidity, options trades, or any arbitrage situation.

If anything, it's more disadvantageous for a trader to share their process than their positioning, as this larper claims to be doing. More people turning over the same rocks would reduce the available pool of cheap finds for him to pick future winners from. The Japanese market is ripe with inefficiency, but it's more damaging to tell people that general fact than to give a specific example. I myself made a trade on IG Port last year - there was a mass selloff and it crashed to around 1k yen, barely above net cash. I bought and sold a few months later for a 60% gain once it reverted.

But its not like anyone even needs to see a current example. A single concrete example of past investing success would suffice. Its clear he won't post anything, because that would invite critique and kill the larp. These roleplay sessions always go the same way.

Level 4 options and portfolio margin were easy to get with TD Ameritrade so I stuck with them. Their margin interest rates are stupidly high, but that rate doesn't effect naked puts so I don't care. They also have a bunch of TA tools. I only use the 200 and 50 SMA so it doesn't really matter to me either.

I Need a broker with a decent mobile app because I work in a machine shop but have a decent signal. I trade during breaks and when the machines are running but the bosses aren't looking. I mentioned those because those are the ones I have now just to get around the day trade limits. If i go full pattern day im only going to be sticking to one broker because I don't have THAT much of money lying around.

Okay TD seems to be having a edge here.

157.13 is the next (and really only) major support zone on the Monthly chart below the current price today, and shows strong resistance multiple times extending all the way back to the late 90's, while the trendline is solid and demonstrates multiple areas of support all the way back to 1993. The area where the trendline meets the 157.13 support/resistance zone creates a strong area of confluence and basically doubles the amount of support where the price is most likely to find solid ground before continuing to climb upward again- which would be fine if it wasnt way far down from the current price today. It's nothing too serious (for the time being) and a bit ridiculous, but just something to note.

net cash means cash minus liabilities.
The company had ~4.5B in cash and ~6B liabilities
so no, you did not in fact buy the company barely above net cash
since this is a purchase you made, surely you're aware what these liabilities consist of and why they are so important, since you can't get out of paying them
feel free to explain, because I just read up on it and it doesn't seem like you have

>Trend trading doesn't work in the long run, no billionaires are made that way
That's why I'm so keen on risk management; it's a marathon, not a race. Sure, it's exciting to see an anon post a 400% gain flipping options, but eventually his account will be permanently down 75%, too. If you can post 9-12% annual results with defined risk and historical data to back it up, being a prop trader is a very viable career path. I'm happy I got my $3000 bumps out of the way early and now I can focus on doing things properly. And if nothing else, it's a fun hobby that generates some money, rather than pissing it away on vidya, smokings, funko pops, or netflix.

sure, there was some analysis that tracked how jim cramer buy picks had amazing 1d performance relative to the index
but of course terrible performance in the long run
if you wanna make your money through pump and dumps and think you can outwit others feel free to do so
when shkreli was working for cramer you have to keep in mind he was part of a team and they were managing billions
you have way better opportunities with your small amount of capital, people who manage billions can't buy great deals in companies where the daily volume is $30K since the return on the time looking through these companies is too tiny

Why would I need you to analyze a business for me?
I'm fully capable of doing that myself. There is no tangible evidence that you have any real credentials.

>>53990674
Nice of you to finally give some concrete evidence of your own incompetence. You can't even read a balance sheet correctly. It's too bad you couldn't show this through an example of your own, but that's fine.

You just go to a stock and use the buy/sell box over to the right. All of your positions and lists will show up on the main page. Their setup is pretty ideal for making quick trades on breaks and stuff too, btw. I set up accounts at TDA, Schwab, and E*TRADE to check them out, and settled on using Robinhood for everything while I am trading on a very small amount of money, but I used E*TRADE's research tools to enhance most decisions. 2 reasons that resulted in that are 1.5% interest on the cash that's sitting there ready to invest, and the round ups contributions when using their debit card. Oh, and most importantly, fractional shares. I don't concern myself at all with share numbers or per share prices, I just throw however many dollars and cents I want to into whatever whenever.

A short cut to FA is just looking at Operating Margin, especially in this environment of high interest rates. Positive Operating Margin (revenue increasing and expenses decreasing)= you're golden. Negative Operating Margin (revenue decreasing and expenses inreasing)= you're fucked, especially as interest rates continue to rise. Price/Free Cash Flow is a good valuation multiple too.

because you've demonstrated here >>53990577 that you cannot in fact read a balance sheet properly as stated here >>53990674

let's settle this with reason and logic
I explained to you that you did not in fact buy the company for nearly net cash because you did not include the "net" part: the liabilities
I asked you what these liabilities are and you cannot answer the question because you did not in fact read the annual report, and instead looked at yahoo finance numbers which don't list these liabilities because some japanese accounting standards are not compatible with yahoo parsing

I'll explain it to you, because I'm so kind:
the liabilities consist of taxes that have yet to be paid, accounts payable to other companies for services already acquired, advances received and reserved director bonuses

you're welcome
