The problem with swinging inherently worthless garbage is that the cumulative value of all trades will always be negative, when aggregated along the inevitable journey to zero. More money was lost, than earned, trading BBBY these past few years.

I believe that all of finance is a zero-sum game. With derivatives it's very obvious who wins and loses. However, even if a company has strong growth and both they and the shareholders benefit, who pays the price?
Foreign markets. The company has strong numbers and a competitive advantage. GDP rises, the dollar strengthens, foreign currency and companies lose (very fractional) amounts of value. Or, in the case of inflation, the country's citizens pay the cost.
There is nothing inherently wrong with this, because you are taking steps so that you can succeed and provide for yourself and those you care about. But it's something I'm always aware of.

Of course, on the other hand there is also a lot of parasitic rent seeking the pops up. It falls to the government to solve this, and in recent years it's clear to see that they've been failing.
I don't necessarily believe capitalism is the only possible workable system, but it does seem to have worked pretty well so far.

As an individual holder of a stake in a business, it's up to you to decide whether you think the company provides value to the world. You can simply choose not to hold companies if you don't support their business.
Personally I see plenty of companies that I'm willing to trade/hold that currently produce real profit and in my opinion provide legitimate value to the world, and I see that continuing. Some of these companies trade at stupidly cheap multiples in my view, for example met coal producers. Technically, whoever sells me shares is losing out on what I see as outsized future value, but that doesn't necessarily mean they've lost. Perhaps they've gotten enough of a win that they're already content, and they have more urgent uses for their own wealth.

I agree in general, including the bit about being an energy storage company. The 2 primary concerns I have is the amount of meme over fundamentals supporting its levels, and the fact that Musk is a huge flake. He has enough vision to put together some good plans and good teams to implement them, but also the tendency to overpromise and even outright lie, so it's difficult to determine which set of forces within that mix will win out. In the long run I figure it will likely survive long enough to outlive him and, together with SpaceX, be among the absolute topmost shapers of the world. If I had more money to risk, and more time horizon in life (I am ~50), I would certainly be stacking and hoping for him to gain a bit more self discipline. Right now I will be grateful to get myself up maybe $25.
