Thinking of selling my three 10oz silver bars to buy a 1/4oz gold eagle or an equivalent sov coin to balance out my stack. I only have a 1/10oz round and a tiny 9K ring for gold to match nearly 190oz of silver. Gonna stick to 1oz max silver bars and rounds from now on. The fiat GSR is getting worse tho, so I dunno.

/pmg/ I had the weirdest dream last night:
>I was in an Arcade
>Sonic the Hedgehog was playing Donkey Kong
>I walked up to him
>Sonic pointed at Donkey Kong on the screen and said "Ha, he's a nigger!" (unfortunately this line wasn't in Sonic's voice)
>I watched him play a bit longer with my face pressed against the glass of the screen
>Sonic lost and walked away
>I looked in the change slot of the machine, inside of it was a bunch of Charles III Coins
>Apparently they were Canadian Quarters judging by the shape and size
>They looked really worn and ugly for some reason despite being brand new
>I fondled the coins for a bit and then woke up
Does my dream have any meaning or is it just noise?

Yeah i know the liquidity is absolute shit for palladium and they rape you on the spread. Guess ebay is the only way left to avoid the store jew. 1g valcambi bars seems pretty liquid there (daily sales), but the premiums are completely insane. If you check the sold listings, prices are all over the place, but they are going for $80-90 in average lately. It's x2 spot...
1oz bars/coins offers are scarces, but at least the premiums aren't as outrageous (cheapest i've seen sold for $250-300/oz over spot).

I have similar dreams from time to time, only the hoards are in cups or change slots. It's just really unusual for characters from videogames to appear in my dreams and weird for the coins to be Charles III Canadian Quarters (coins that don't exist yet).

I quit hoarding hardcore pornography and buying anime figurines at about the same time, and even though I got most of my money back reselling the figures on ebay, I decided to switch to hoarding something easier in size and liquidity. No matter what, the things l buy in silver are worth at least their weight in silver, which I cannot say for questionably legal plastic figurines that come in giant boxes and that are a pain in the ass to store and ship. Naturally I started buying erotic silver rounds, and then once I had a lot of them I had to have all of them, and once I had almost all of them, when I saw a silver miniature dinosaur cock riding whore, I knew I had no choice but to purchase it, as my identity is now glued to being erotic silver collector.

I don't know any more than you fren, just looked up online for the first time. As for any metal tho, i'd save up for 1ozers rather than getting raped on baby bars.

>Been needing to spice up the stack and Pd seems to be talked about even less than Pt
Yeah, what seems odd tho is the abundance in the earth crust :
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abundance_of_elements_in_Earth%27s_crust

Idk if it's a typo, but one sauce says 0.0006ppm, and the other 0.006 (so a x10 dif!) and a last one 0.015... That's all over the place. Others metals listed haven't those kind of discrepancies. I get that palla is found indepths and isn't mined much, so the numbers can vary, but that's a lot here..
Let's compare with the other PM boys (in ppm, sauce 1; sauce 2; sauce 3, tons mined yearly) :
>gold : 0.001 ; 0.003 ; 0.004 ; 3100T // spot : $1811
>plat : 0.003 ; 0.003 ; 0.005 ; 172T // spot : $922
>palla: 0.0006 ; 0.006 : 0.015 ; 208T // spot : $1445
>silver : 0.07 ; 0.08 ; 0.07 ; 27000T // spot : $21

If we had to take investing decisions only on those data (ofc it's not the case, but lets pretend) to chose among the "rare boys" (silver not invited), plat would be the obvious choice. As it's the same rarity as gold but twice cheaper, and 18x less plat is being extracted from the ground yearly compared to gold.
With palladium, it's impossible to tell with such delta in the numbers... What we know for sure is the amount mined, and it's being extracted 1.2x more than Pt, while being 1.6x time more expensive : No Bueno at all!

I have x136 Australian 1966 round 50 cent coins.
x45 50% silver florins.

I’d bring your GSR to 1:100 which means you need almost 100 more oz of silver to meet that beautiful balance.

Up to you, anon. I love the unique nature of every stack as we gravitate towards our own preferences.

Considering your context Pd seems like a bitch to acquire. 1 gram bars have brutal premiums like you said but will be significantly easier to ever sell and the premium would carry with. If Pd (or Pt for that matter) explode the premiums are covered pretty quickly.

Still can’t believe the only palladium on eBay from a reputable dealer are second hand sluts.

No prob fren, and yeah Pd sounds poopoo af. Compared to Pt : bigger premiums, less liquid, less rare (mined supply wise) and far bigger spot...
And on top of that, if you zoom out the price chart to 20Y, Pd looks like a shitcoin who already mooned and is now in the hard dump phase.
While Pt spiked during the GFC, then progressively dumped for 9 years straight, and is finally initiating a recovery phase since 2020. Easy pick between the "deflating shitcoin" versus the "momentum upward" charts.

If you want to add some exotic PM to your stack, i'd stick to Pt if i were you.

My copypasta for beginning buyers lists options to consider in deciding what to get.
- When a new series of artful or themed bullion (especially coins) is issued, the first of the series are usually missed by later collectors. They will pay high premiums to fill in their series. Consider the series' potential popularity: generic and/or cringeworthy themes are less likely to appreciate.
- Low-mintage series are often priced very high, but may in time increase in value the most.
- Gov't-issued coins cost least during the mint run. Once the mintage stops and dealers run out of stock, the prices jump then rise more slowly but still faster than generic silver. Maples, Eagles, Wieners, etc. are all nice but boring. The mint may add a privy to add novelty thereby ginning up the price. Annual changes to overall designs become series (Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc.), adding potential appreciation.
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, you will still appreciate them even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to part with them.
- Some beautiful generics are priced comically high (Germanias, GSM specials, e.g.) - they don't follow the market trends as readily, garnering peak price while fashionable. Be aware: dealers may categorize and price these as "generic" (meaning below or at spot) when buying them from you. Or the gamble might pay off as they become very popular (Englehard, PAMP, antique miners/refiners, e.g.).
- For new generic bars, watch the markups over spot: premiums (added charges) go up for smaller pieces.
- Shipping is an added premium. Many online vendors offer free shipping for purchasing a minimum amount (commonly $200). Factor that your local coin shop has no shipping to charge.
- Keep a spreadsheet of your purchases to track profit/loss: it's quite revealing and may help guide future decisions.

Just don’t sell any of your precious silber, fren!

I completely sympathize with the struggles of stacking gold. Some make a rule to buy one oz of silver a day and it’s pretty easy considering the low price point but the smallest fractional gold is still 200$+ per 1/10 oz if you aren’t going for the premium ass rape of grams.

Commit yourself to saving for as large a piece of gold as you can stomach. I have this fucked up metric I’ve been practicing where I will stash money for gold over a month or two month time frame while still leaving enough to occasionally buy an oz or two (or 5) of silver. Scratches the itch but let’s me know that I’m still saving towards gold.

1:100 isn’t a meme; it’s smart to diversify and keep a balanced stack.

Let’s not even start about how to fit platinum in budget…

This is nonsense. The Chinese fake plastic packaging easily. Testing is not expensive. Every dealer has the tech and a sigma is within the reach of any medium-sized stacker. Picrel. Not only does packaging NOT act as a real security feature, it makes traditional testing (touchstone, acid) methods impossible. And I absolutely promise you that gold without packaging is not "almost worthless".

However, you "might" get a bit more from a dealer or packaged gold if your were foolish enough to sell because dealers are in the business of reselling to fools, among others, who might put unwarranted faith in an easily-faked package.

Gold or silver. Hm. I think gold hasn't come down in price as far as silver has, so on the face of it I'd say silver.
On the other hand (there are five more fingers; inb4 thumbs are not fingers), there does seem to be a global grab for gold by nation states and banks, meaning gold may go up more so than silver. That can be countered with a speculation that more silver will be needed for technology, and Pan Man (whose word is always honest, if not 100% accurate) says silver mining is becoming more difficult meaning we'd expect its cost to go up.
But you have to make this decision on your own. Pic related.

After 100 oz of silver it’s hard to break the habit. 1 oz of gold starting of is a great foundation.

It doesn't have to be.
Search for Latin Monetary Units, more commonly known as "European Sovereigns," "(Old) European Gold (or Coins)," "World Gold Mints," etc. These coins will be francs, ducats, guilders, coronas. They should have low premiums - around 4%.
But not "Pre-1933" which usually means American coinage and has a high premium (which *should* carry through to your selling later, but you never know).

Unfortunately my last batch of cheapies didn't work out as well as I hoped, the 18.8ozt asw batch cost me $14.47/oz making it the worst price I've paid this year. On the upside I got a lot of premium pieces instead of just scrap, including some lovely Norwegian gold plated sterling silver guilloche (enameled) spoons. I love sterling guilloche, the stuff is of exceptional quality and very beautiful to fondle, and because of the gold plating it might appeal to goldbug frens more than normal sterling. Demand is very strong and attrition from damage on top of scrapping is nigher than for normal sterling so if you get it for a fair price i think guilloche articles are among the best investments in the realm of silverware.

Sealed in jars they can last for years. The biggest factor is being able to source your own. There used to be a whole culture and market worldwide of seed trade between villages as the seeds cultivated were specifically adapted to each farmer’s unique environment. The green revolution really fucked it all up.

Dabbled in SOME numismatics, and I'm so stingy about it I actually made bank... But I'm not one to stommach the premiums and until "profits" actualize the perceived value is the opposite of the kind of confidence a stack gives me versus stocks. But, while its still technically numismatic, I actually redirected to my draw towords "utility metal"... I mean what good does a chest of coins do in the meantime? I'm a bit more specialized than a sterling trinket collector but there are things that CAN'T be made anymore. A couple years ago I couldn't imagine spending $100 for a gram of gold, now I personally own quarter gram bits worth $500+ (and those are the ones I'm keeping)

>>53853418
I won't lie, that is close but not it... No less ugly but a bit less faggy on mine, also you posted a 3 ducat round while mine is 5. But different denomination would count if you happened to find the 50 ducat version I am considering getting... More to hold the monopoly but also its selling for under spot and any of you would scoop it on sight

Absolutely! Thankfully I found a thriving modern market for mine, rather than just some flavor of antique collector. Not tools, but similar to some carpentry equipment that people pay top dollar for old because its the best money can buy. I personally want a machinist's chest for the utility of it but holy fuck if any I like aren't $600 or half missing and the rest rotted for $300. Worst still is a new one is like $1600. Granted I can stuff it with a staggering value of wealth but I ain't spending that much by half even... Still want one.

Pretty amazing how fast people set up functioning money systems even under severe restrictions. Prison camps and extreme commie shitholes for example.

A recognized, uniform, fungible, durable, non-spoiling commodity like metal coins will be adopted fast. But I think the collapse will be followed instantly by, if not preceded by, issues of PM money by governments. Then it will be just a matter of reconciling weight and fineness of particular coins, bars, rounds etc. And that ain't hard.

In 2023, the obverse of the American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin and Silver Medal will feature a bristlecone pine, a species native to California, Nevada, and Utah, thought to be the oldest living organisms on Earth, living up to 5,000 years. Bristlecone pines grow in places where other plants cannot, and are often the species that is first to repopulate the land after cataclysmic changes such as a lava run or glacial runoff. The silver medal has the additional inscription “WE SHALL PERSEVERE.” United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Elana Hagler created the new obverse design, which Chief Engraver Joseph Menna sculpted.

The reverse of the 2023 gold coin and silver medal will depict a young bald eagle standing on a rocky outcropping moments before it takes flight. Mint Medallic Artist John P. McGraw created and sculpted the design.

It is a rough ratio that anons use to balance their stack. Some stack only gold, some use 1:25 or 1:50, some go 1:100 or 1:150, and some go all in on silver.

For example, I am close to 500 oz and need to build up some serious gold (sold 3 oz and 2 oz platinum during a move that unexpectedly cost way more than planned).
