Whether it's worthwhile depends on much money you make and how you value you time. I'm finding it's important to optimize for both. A long term hold on SPY/VOO would theoretically reduce taxes long term by delaying realized gains for multiple decades, but anyone using that strategy saw their wealth decline this past year.
In the end, maximizing post-tax wealth is key.

Moving to a low tax state is the biggest savings for me. I'll save 7.5k just by leaving Connecticut this year. The 6% state income tax is deceptive because it's additive with Federal tax. In effect, it's more like an 8% tax on the remaining income after paying federal income taxes.
Compound that savings and consider that future bills would be higher, I'll probably be at least 300k wealthier in a decade.

In the end it might be the same taxes owed between the two years, but by paying less taxes this April I'll owe less quarterly estimated taxes next year. That's essentially free money I can carry for 12 whole months until the 2024 tax deadline, investing and making even more gains.
