Has any anons ever taken over the family business?

Got recently fired but parents offered me a position in the family company.

The money seems good but its a totally different industry in construction so its not a comfy WFH gig copy/pasting code.

What has been your experience?

Father made a will without telling me or my sister. All assets liquidated, all employees fired and given 3 months pay, all money yo church. He converted before he died. He left us nothing. The house we lived in sold for pennies and the money all went to church. Minister drives an expensive looking rolls royce now.

They want for either of us kids to take over so they can retire south of the border instead of selling it off.

I guess my concern is jumping into a totally unrelated industry and being stuck there, especially if I end up not liking it.

I would try to get hired elsewhere but desu I absolutely hate corporate politics and dealing with boomer bosses so it's a bit of a tie between WFH comfort or still dealing with boomers but its under my own terms now.

I went to school with a guy named Mr. Weinstein. His dad ran a scrap metal business and he told his son to go work at all the competitors for a few years. He left the competitor a few year later, taking their trade secrets and their best employees. Then he took over the family business and was able to outcompete the competitor.

Tldr; learn from your competitors and take advantage.

My first gig was working for a small marketing agency and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't of known half the shit I know now.

If I didn't hate dealing with clients I could do a small freelance agency and just subcontract the things I didn't know or wouldn't do.
