Think of it as remaining market neutral. You still generate revenue from your other investments, and it's not like the business is hemorrhaging money, it just won't ever become net profitable (due to loans, expenses etc), but it also doesn't increase your total tax liability. Depending on your PPE you can claim them as depreciation of assets which offsets the gains your business makes. Over time, the land will also appreciate in value.
It's complicated and unintuitive process that I haven't looked into because my tax code isn't fucked like the US's, and also I don't own any businesses. But this sort of shit does exist for high net worth individuals

I like to think about the broad macro factors, stuff like interest rates (and foreign rates), GDP, bond yields etc etc and see where the markets might be heading. So like, if I know equities are likely to suffer a downturn, and I know that historically money moves to forex, bonds, and PMs, I can try to move to those asset classes before the event.
