I feel like comparing with 2021-2022 is fake news. Kind reminder that in 2022 we were basically deflating post-covid bubble.
Pic related are the US exports for the last 5 years. As you can see US exports fell too, but we're still way above 2019 levels.

Not saying there are no issues, but I think your claim regarding global economy might be overblown.

Shit officially hit the fan again
Reasons include incorrect derivative pricing in a lot of fields, it is once again systematic, probably linked to libor, here are some examples of red flags that have popped up over the course of the past 2 weeks that I know of:
Forward freight agreements, weather derivatives, leveraged securitized bnpl, forex swaps, total return swaps and some smaller shit related to datacenter insurance in Turkey
I wish I knew what's gonna happen but the seniors here being on edge scares enough out of me to just sell :/

Because that's the reality. Polititians are claiming openly they want to get rid of Oil. Because of this oil companies are not investing in new drilling sites, which reduces their expenses and boosts P/E.
It takes over a decade to get back your initial investment from a drill site. In current political climate it makes no sense to make such longterm investments.

Leverage is a bit more complicated here than borrowing money and option agreements
One of the more common methods of supposedly deleveraging on balance is moving from liquid to illiquid or opaque assets and agreements which can be anything you can dream of
In accounting terms these are marked to market (last volume weighted transaction) but they are also very unique on purpose so they don't get traded
So the on balance market price of these illiquid instruments stay the same and you are in accounting terms "risk off" but the fixed term negative or positive "earnings" on these assets so to speak swing wildly and are linked to libor
So you can't get rid of them and they're costing you a fuck ton of money slowly over time

I think it's way more complex than that. In the end, this is all just a gamble when you look at it longterm.
Some Oil companies are already diversifying into renewables on their own, but it's a slow transition.
M&A could be a way to go, but companies to acquire don't grown on trees.
In the end there is no guarantee that after transition into green energy they will be able to maintain current cash flow too.

That's a lot of risk as it is. On top of it you need to consider oil price fluctuations. People often forget that there are many types of crude. Even WTI is a basket of few types.
It's quite possible that while western Oil companies are slowing down with discovery, Africa and Asia will continue search for new sources. Who knows, maybe they will hit another jackpot like Nigeria did with Bonny Light and crush demand from western producers while they are already in turmoil.

Death was a blessing to put it mildly. The one who had dementia was really fucked up. She didn't know who I was. She didn't know who my Wife was. She thought my grandad was fine. AMD drivers aren't dogshit in comparison, wtf are you talking about? For the average consumer AMDs price/performance ratio is attractive considering theyre not in the market of needing the performance of a 3090 or just don't want to pay a premium and their 6k series was very well received.

I swear the amount of retards opening a line of credit to buy the NVDA 30 series release was astounding. Most of them did it to run their shitty video game which any 20 series could do just fine.

I’ve been sitting on $250k in cash/short term bills since last March that I’ve earmarked it for stocks when I thought it was the right time to purchase. Goal is to build a long term portfolio and diversify a bit away from crypto. In the past year I’ve realized I have no business stock picking though. Is it retarded to just go all in BRKb and just hold it for 30 years? If so what’s the best alternative?

>> No.53768681

I don’t think BRK is better necessarily. I guess the question is why does investing in say the vanguard sp etf make more sense then a stock like BRK when vanguard is a passive fund with an expense ratio and pays out dividends. After fees and taxes I make less than the overall market. BRK on the other hand is actively managed and doesn’t pay a dividend (usually). Allows for most tax efficient compounding and I have a chance to outperform the market (a pretty good chance since they’ve consistently outperformed). BRK’s underlying businesses are heavily diversified as well so there’s good long term protection. I guess the main outstanding question is whether BRK’s price is reasonable.

Every single person in /smg/ trying to be a day trader will eventually lose most of their money.

IN EVERY TRADE, there is a winner and a loser. You have information. They have information. You have to be certain you know more. And most of the time you do not. Theres a reason why retail is considered stupid. But guess what, even if you are right, Wall Street still takes their cut.

Bogle-chads will always win in the end because you buy the entire market. Every active manager, day trader, hedge fund, bank etc. trades to discover prices and build the index. And bogle-chads buy it for 0.03 Bepis. Eventually the best stocks will rise and make most of the index, like Fang names. You don't have to time it, you don't have to chase hot sectors. Pic related.

Buffet got lucky. Yes the dude did good no question. But he got lucky and he also had at his disposal a shat pot of money to roll with to. Several things worked in his favor; no internet, a market crash (1980's), having a shat pot of money, and the flop of coke's "New Coke" product on top of it all. First the market crash took down KO's stock. Then the failure of New Coke also that same time took the stock down even more. Enter Buffet with his wad of money (1 million dollars, I think). Thanks to no internet back then (no information coming at you lighting quick thus no way for it to impact stock prices at the blink of an eye) he was able to swoop in and get a shat pot of KO stock cheap as hell. Next he merely waited for time, stock splits, and divvy hikes to do the rest. (Last time he bought shares was in the early 90s).

I haven't kept track of that case, but usually it's similar to how a specific stock gets posted. Somebody watches it, then posts screenshots or gifs, then other people get into it and repost, and this continues until the market reaches saturation. The process is affected by seasonality, which is quarterly for anime, like quarterly earnings, but there's also perennial classics. Good fundamentals promote steady long term performance.

Yes but not by a significant amount. You may beat it huge every once in a while but pulling this off year after year after year for a decade and more is very difficult. In order to beat it consistently you have to carefully manage your risk and in so doing limit your upside to some degree. That's why the mean return is so hard to beat every time. But you don't need to beat it big. I do think individual stocks are too unpredictable and too high risk. Swinging indexes with leverage is just easier.

VC portfolios are a bunch of losers, a bunch of nothingburgers and a few big winners. When interest rates were zero there was a ton of saved money that needed to go somewhere, so it wasn't unreasonable to invest it in startups.

I used to really dislike Buffett for stuff like this, but the older I get the more I like the him. He found a system that made logical sense, didn’t deviate and stuck with it, he created a whole method of valuing securities that really gives you an edge. I think most of the reason I don’t like him these days isn’t actually related to his thoughts, but what other people have done with his concepts such as quant firms that I feel isn’t taking into account the full mechanisms of the market.

Long winded thank you for the video anon, I liked it.

It’s literally a midwit filter stock. It’s incredible.
It pisses off midwits so much it’s honestly shocking. I’ve never seen such a hostile reaction to one of the obvious fucken investments of 2023.

Online bank account yields are pretty good right now, so I was thinking of parking most of my cash in one at 4%+. Although this is a safe "bet", I'm wondering - with access to brokerages - if I even need a "bank" account to do something like this?

Why not just a money market or other type of cash-like security? Do any Anons have suggestions for cash-like security or money market fund that yields 4%+?

I'm not looking to invest right now, I just want my money to do "something" while I do my research.

Vanguard, Fidelity, Schwab all have money market funds that pay out more than most savings accounts. And that's just shy of short term T-bills, which you should also be able to access through your brokerage.

What >>53776043 said. There's also BIL, an ETF that invests in Treasury bills. SEC yield is currently 4.17%.

If you live somewhere with state income taxes, t-bills are unbeatable. You'd likely need around 5.4% in a savings account, money market, or CD to match the post-tax returns that 5% treasuries give.

I don't think people are angry at the stock or taking a short position, I think people are angry the same two people posting about it won't shut the fuck up. Also typically the best tickers that get shilled here aren't the loudest, but an anon who posts once or twice about it, then comes back in X months to gloat he was right.
