Mike Rowe's only fault is that he's misguided. If the small hat merchant tribe hadn't warped the economy into a hellscape then Mike Rowe would be completely right. His ideals just don't account for the fact the game is rigged

I have started to think of the Protestant Ethic and things associated with it as The German Game. The American version of it is as The American Variation. It's interesting that the original German Game gets you a skilled workforce and the marvel that is German engineering when you introduce socialism, but the American Variation only gets you complacent boomers under an American mixed market economy and an Americanized social system. Granted it worked when the boomers were young because the elite hadn't started strip-mining the thin layer of meritocracy that held the whole thing together, so you really did have a time of American exceptionalism. Overall I do think that the German Game is better played in its original format than the American Variant, since the elite who play it tend to make self defeating moves.
