What you don't know is that the party chairman's girlfriend's dad is the Minister of Baseball and the government has confiscated 1000 heads of cattle so that they can make leather baseball gloves which means that we can't have any milk. But we need milk, so what did they do? The chairman has invested in Dole fruit company through a Swiss bank account and is managing a "feed the people" program where he buys gigantic quantities of fruit at 1000x their price to inflate the company's earnings and enrich himself.
This is what the famine looks like for most people. One day you go to the store and there's no fish. The next day you go and there's a ludicrous amount of fish, but all the salt was confiscated. The following week there's an insane surplus of ladies coats, and then the rest of the year you can't get goat cheese.
This is the future we are entering. Baby formula, toilet paper, eggs, housing, used cars...what's next?
