I'd go solar more if the grid runs into problems. Not really for saving on energy bills IMO.

What if someone shoots it with a pellet gun?

I don't trust the electrical grid.
You can write off 1/3 of the cost.
Adds value to your home.
Only really worth it for the southern states though with more sun

>> No.53607884

I’d do this. If I ever have the capability to go solar in my own home one day I would. Harnessing energy from light is pretty cool.

Yeah that many panels almost certainly will eliminate your electricity bill completely. It's the upfront costs that won't be offset by those savings for at least 10 years. They are very ugly, though.

>> No.53609251

10 years? Wow, just in time to have to replace them. Meanwhile, all the coal used to produce them means you also have pay a carbon tax!

>> No.53609267

>>53607775
Even though this is a pretty dumb hypothetical situation, the panels themselves aren't the expensive part of the installation. They're getting very cheap. The price tag is mostly the inverter, the frame and the labor to set it up.
Many home insurance policies would also cover the cost of the replacement.

I can make a solar panel in my garage on the cheap. The wiring and all of the stuff that I don't even know about is what I'm paying for.
