Some hybrids can be allright. Anything that runs on purely electricity is going to be locked down. Electricity grid is running on low supply? They'll lock your car. The fact that electric cars have huge tablets is a gradient towards this kind of "ownership" regarding cars.

I have a 2012 Ford Escape Limited. It's got all the bells and whistles I'd like, I bought it for very cheap, mileage is still low at 100K, it runs like a champ.

Only thing that makes me nervous is how rusty it is. Does this spell doom for the important mechanical components or will I be able to drive this thing for another 50k without issue? I can afford much better I'm just enjoying no payments and low stress.

I looked into trading up for a similar vehicle and they only offered me $2.5k for trade-in, I was like why the fuck would I do that for basically the same car?

Convenience doesn’t always translate to a better qol. I’m not 50, but I’m in my 40s, so I was fortunate enough to grow up through all the changes over the last several decades. Is life better now than before? That’s a hard no for me, but that’s not to say everything was peachy. I just think that advancements in technology has only made it easier for the goldsteins to better hide and manage their control of things.
