btc is not designed to work at scale and as such does not and can not compete with national currencies, or better-designed cryptos, for that matter.

if it's to curtail mining and energy use, you'd think it would be a simple matter of blocking the protocol with their "great firewall". really every nation that subsidizes electricity should ban it, or at least the act of mining on subsidized energy. i don't know how much of the hashrate is supported by subsidized energy, but probably a significant amount.
