The system is rigged against genuinely smart people who don't fit into the society and are made to be outcasts. This is what patronage was about in the past - genius artists and thinkers were given patronage by wealthy and royal families because they recognized their importance. Now those of us who would have occupied such a position are thrown to the curb...or have to find very creative solutions in order to be able to survive.

I make a reasonable living doing what I want. But it wasn't easy to get to this place - I had to fight, as the society is not there to support people like me. Quite the opposite.
