Also many memories as a kid after a big snowstorm or thunderstorm our power would go out an it might take days for someone to come out and fix it. The snow plow would also go by once every few hours..maybe.

Housing is directly correlated to income. Cheap homes in a town mean the people in the town are poor. Poor people have no ambition to become anything other than poor. They don't want to make the community any better. They won't fix up their house when it needs repair. They won't maintain their yard. Why isn't Maine more popular with people locating to relocate? Yes, there are very expensive coastal areas, but there are also nearby areas with much lower costs that aren't too close to the meth heads that inhabit the middle of the state. There is a burgeoning tech scene in Portland and a lot of blue collar jobs in shellfishing and lobstering. It's also one of the whitest, if not the whitest states.
