It actually isn't. If you're in your late teens or early 20s throwing a few thousand at a high risk investment is a much better learning experience than throwing it at some low risk boomer fund. If you lose money on the high risk investment it's no big deal you can easily make that money back plus you have a better understanding of risk vs reward.
