I think they're sending/being sent money through HKD, given that it's completely illiquid it's a great money laundering vehicle. The sell side pretty much is 100% underwriters selling, so what those underwriters are using the money for is probably at least somewhat market related. Loop Capital is a broker dealer, they have liabilities from securities sold and not yet purchased that they need to balance. Collateral wise they have a lot of these shares so the price going up helps them somewhat but I don't think that's the primary function. They're selling into the market, so it's actually being converted to cash rather than sitting as a line-item collateral on their books based on market value. Somebody is sending them money.
