What did you guys do today? Today I hit a maple repeatedly with a hammer. It was cathartic. It's still got some rough spots. Makes for a nice fidgit. I hammered it into a minor bowl. It can spin easily when laying flat on the convex side.

Plus I just made a massive fucking purchase that I never thought I was going to make in the first place.
I now intend to send it into CAC and chase that gold sticker for it but Im not that kind of guy who sends coins out for grading enough to justify paying for a membership so Im probably going to have to send it through a coin shop.
I also have a 1889-CC Morgan dollar that I bought in an outdated holder and I intend to send it off to CAC both at the same time but Im waiting for them to finally unveil their full-scale grading service and I really want to get it inside of CAC's new holders. I kilobar goes for close to spot (plus tip, depending on cunt). Most 1oz coins/bars go for 15-30% over spot. So if you trade a kilo (~32 oz) for 1oz pieces you end up with 700-850g (~22-27oz). This is for silver but also applies to gold if you go small enough. On the other hand it's not like you really lost value. What is lost in weight is gained in liquidity. You can also get rid of your bits and pieces and get that kilo back (minus any spread, fees, taxes or other overhead in your trades).

You must elaborate anon, are you saying that my hoard of ancients is going to moonshot? I hoovered up as much as I could in the years prior to coofvid, primarily because of autistic interest in ancient things and secondarily because I recognized that the efficient global market and access to antiquities in the 2010s wouldn't last forever. I explained to my dad then that it seemed like the world was in a sweet-spot with a window of opportunity to obtain rare ancient coins and artifacts that wouldn't remain open forever. I expected a shift toward (archaeological) resource nationalism and more effective enforcement along with a breakdown of globalization which would hamper access and availability and cheap mail service from source countries plus eventual conflicts which would also shut down international postal services. I didn't expect something like covid which shuttered international mail for a while but did expect conflict to arise, like the Russia/Ukraine war, which would make it impossible to do business with sources in countries where the artifacts are found. I used to get lots of good stuff from Russians and Ukrainians.

Availability of ancient coins and artifacts still hasn't recovered to pre-coof volumes and it does seem like interest and thus prices are increasing for what remains, but if some sort of paradigm shift is coming and the number of collectors does a 10x then I'll be sitting on a tidy little fortune.

There’s no difference if you’re just stacking for weight as long as it’s all the same purity. 999fine.

With lesser known “brands”/mints etc though you’re much more likely to get ripped off with a fake, so if you’re just gonna buy the cheapest bars you can get then make sure you are capable of testing it. Also if you’re just gonna stack 1kg bars then you’re gonna find it much more difficult to liquidate or get a good price over spot when you sell. It’s why most people stack in 1oz bullion coins.

I haven’t been around long enough, obviously its face value multiple fluctuates based on spot price (and condition to an extent). But a few years ago was it fairly underpriced vs bullion for the equivalent silver weight? Did it trade significantly under spot? It’s pretty expensive online but I’ve been able to get it at 19 face for dimes or 20 face for everything else at a recurring coin show near me. Which isn’t bad in this environment
