Is trade jobs the only area in which UK wages actually (relatively) outstrip US wages?
I'm a programmer and I get paid £50k a year (lose half of that to taxes) meanwhile the bloke who fit my kitchen the other day earns £86k (plus lowered tax for being a sole trader) and stops for the year so he doesn't have the hassle of VAT registering at £90k. Some years he finishes in August.

>3 people, 1 coworker and 1 manager
>Department next to us that sends us our work to do and we sort it and ship it
>10 people selling stuff sending us the orders to ship
>manager is off so only 2 me and coworker in the department
>fucking 90+ orders come through (84 is a high order day and average day is like 70 at most) on high order days we struggle to meet demand with the full department and manager working
>We're fucked 2 other managers from other departments jump in to help
>Hammer work back and work 1 hour overtime that night + come in early the next day for 2 hours more overtime in the morning to try and clear the backlog.

>Manager lets slip the company is now investigating me and co-worer for poor work rate because even with 2 extra managers helping we failed to clear 90+ orders which involves checking inventry and organising supply routes to deliver.

Like, can't I just check the "mixed race" box and if they pry about it in an interview just tell them my grandmother was hispanic or something? I'm white, so I feel like that could still be in the realm of believability (most hispanics are some degree of white mixed anyway), and it's not like they're going to verify it. it has nothing to do with that. "Over-qualified" is more about them thinking you're only going to use the job temporarily until you find one you're actually qualified for. That and it's a potential red flag if you're applying for those jobs when on paper you should be getting much better jobs.
Like if somebody with experience as a head chef applies to be a dishwasher at a restaurant, they either fucked up hard at an old job so much that they can't get anything better. Or they're just going to quit in a couple weeks when they get the job they actually want.

It was common to even see Boomers who lost their work looking for anything new just to pay the bills. People hiring at still humans, not machines. They can detect situational awareness and tell people are out of work and just need to put bread on the table. There was also the reality that a lot of older generations got a rude awakening that the US wasn't still all rainbows and sunshine and when it was time for them to look for new work they realized all the real jobs were gone or taken and the scraps left behind wouldn't even pay for rent.
