Yeah, emotional self regulation is probably just as big of a deal as a sound strategy. So many different aspects to that as well, from handling losses, keeping yourself from doing something stupid out of boredom, being willing to take appropriate risks, not tapping out too early etc. It's why paper trading is next to useless.

I've been getting better with most aspects of it, except for maybe being too conservative with risk. Decreasing the number of trades I make and setting myself hard limits on loss and number of losing trades helped me the most so far.

I sometimes watch the videos of this guy "day trader next door", trading from his basement in Canada. He's a trading veteran and at this point is really good at it on an intuitive level, but even he struggles with some of this, so I doubt it ever completely goes away.

Same with futures. Fucking around with 1 micro is one thing, trading with 10 full size is another. If you trade 10 full size contracts, S&P futures moving a single point against you is -500$. A 10 point stop is equal to accepting a 5k risk, which is hard to do and even more difficult if you've been wrong twice in a row. Good luck staying focused after taking 10k in losses potentially in a matter of minutes, after you did nothing particularly wrong, knowing that you might lose again the next time you take a trade. I'd quibble and say consistent earnings are the key, not consistent revenue. Consistently selling at a loss is not a good and sustainable situation for dividends.

Fuck Amex. They arent accepted everywhere. I knw BofA is garbage if you're poor, but i pay no fees at all. They basically pay me to keep my investments with Merrill.
I do have an Amex for groceries, though. 18 mos interest free so I dont have to pay for today's milk and eggs until like july.
