How is your job situation /biz/?

Did you get a really stupid degree and are now fucked?

Did you fall for the college is a meme meme?

Are you set for life?

I want to know how my bros are doing. Me personally, I have a comfy job and a stupid degree (theoretical physics) but I wish I was making more.

Ours aren’t really automated, so I’m controlling traction power and braking. Also have to know the entire network inside out, what signal you need to go to x destination or platform because signallers will sometimes set the wrong route accidentally, what speed limit applies for x section of track, where signals are, procedures and rules, etc etc. And the occasional person trying to jump in front of your train.

Reality is though that 99% of the time when everything is running without issue, it’s extremely cushy and very easy. I usually put some music or a podcast on and chill out. The trouble is that there’s nowhere to go - I want a more challenging career with better pay, and I’d need to start all over again to achieve that.

I got a stupid degree and ended up paying for it. I majored in theology, concentrating in church history. Ended up dropping out of a PhD program because I just couldn’t take it anymore. While I was in graduate school I worked part time for a tech company. After dropping out I continued slaving away at the company and after six years eventually got a full-time job there. Finally, at 39 years old I started making six figures.

send applications in
get call back interviews
i'd act as the reference/ old mgr when called
eventually he gets a role
learn or do nothing till you fuk off
enjoy the money for the next few months
rinse and repeat
you'll unironically learn what to do and then you can stay in roles longer and stack paper
flip roles for better money

Yes. If you're working full time get basic certs like CompTIA A+, Security, Network, you'll be able to get them done on the side without too much difficulty. If you really want to get into networking CCNA is great, but it is a fairly challenging cert so I wouldn't recommend unless that's where you want to go. Regarding the mentioned CompTIA certs they aren't worth that much and most IT fags here will mock them but help desk is the one of the most entry level jobs there is in IT. Nowadays there's always a lot of help desk jobs available due to how dependent everything is on tech and how little a lot of normalfags know about IT, so having a few certs you can list off shows that you at least care enough to learn and will probably be enough to get some interviews.

I know that feel. I live in the first world but was doing help desk shit from 2018-2021. The people were nice enough but the company was growing and bit by bit becoming your generic massive corporation focused on nothing but squeezing the most work out of wagies. It was funny, a lot of people on /biz/ liked wfh with covid but that pushed me over the edge for leaving kek. Couldn't distract myself by just shit talking with colleagues all day, all that was left was the actual work which I hated.

I have a BS in Biochemistry. I've been working as a lab RA for a few years, got some money and got my name on a paper published in nature which was pretty cool and worked at a few startups as well. I worked as a medical scribe for a bit and was chill with some of the clinical pharmacists there. Scribing sucked though so I quit and was actually a teacher for a year, which was honestly kind of fun. Currently about to start a position as a lab chemist for the city. Pay is ok but seems like a chill job with some growth. I have to do some prerequisite courses at community collage to qualify for pharmacy school though. Kinda nervous about getting in because my GPA from undergrad was shitty.

My problem however is that I'm kinda stuck in a 10 year relationship with my gf who has an autoimmune disease and Im scared to build a future with her because of it.
