The Fed expects inflation to be in the low 3% range by the end of the year and the low 2% range by the end of 2024, which is new information as far as I know. I expect that they're going to "realize" that they've been overtightening soon, maybe by the next meeting, and do no more than a 25 bps hike. Remember a few months ago when it was going to be 50 or 75 or even 100 bps indefinitely? If the consistent theme is that the Fed is always behind the curve, I think we're right on schedule for a P Word.

>During the free banking era, the banks were short-lived compared to today's commercial banks, with an average lifespan of five years. About half of the banks failed, and about a third of which went out of business because they could not redeem their notes.[4] (See also "Wildcat banking".)

30Y is only 2% off the literal QE infinity bottom today, and only 1% above the Fed's longterm inflation target.
6% is almost double from where it trades right now. There was a single month where it broke 4% and hit a high of almost 4.5%. I said this was unsustainable at the time. It did not sustain.

If the Fed actually dumped enough 30Y treasuries to push yields towards 6%, and investors let it sit at that level. It would signal complete loss of confidence in longterm support for the US dollar. The debt/GDP is too high to pay out real yields of even 1%, so a 6% yield implies at least 5% long term inflation. The debt interest cost would essentially guarantee that. 5%+ of GDP going directly to interest payments.

The only reason short term t-bill yields can push 5% safely is that it's seen as temporary. As soon as inflation is solved, the Fed will revert yields back to the 1-2% range. Except it won't be solved. Higher will become higher for longer and eventually higher forever. They're trying to pull an impossible trick, inflating our national debt away to nothing while simultaneously running massive spending deficits and convincing the whole world that US dollar is still a safe currency to hold and trade with. If they miraculously pull this off, it will be seen as the greatest global robbery of all time.

I've also noticed the perceptible drop it food quality recently. Certain things that my family used to love are now uneatable. Most recently it was Johnsonville firecracker sausages, used to love them, used to be a nice pinkish brown color with a nice little bit of juice and spice kick. Now they're grey, dry and taste rancid.

In fact I ended up ahead slightly v.s my guess. (Added wife to health options hence the "cut"; they cut taxes sucked out of my check so hence the "restore"). Took the surplus and hiked my 401k contribution amounts another 10% per check. Also hiked my Emergency fund stuffing amount slightly. Still got a small surplus just dangling.

its really not that simple at all.
higher rates means that duration of loans increases, everyone is already locked in at ~3%.
New loan activity is way down, credit utilization is way down.
Banks are losing basically all of their free funding from low/non interest checking accounts as people move to higher earning products.
funding any new loans and operational expense is significantly more expensive as FHLB/fed funds rates increase and deposits become more expensive.
revenue from fees is going to drop as people invest less in equities and move to bonds.
