The whole point of GME being an "idiosyncratic" risk is that Wallstreet wanted to be short the whole market and then cause a dip and then slurp. However, they can't do this because they are SO short on GME that they hoped everyone would sell, that they need the rest of their collateral to be propped up to maintain the short position. The float is getting locked up, thereby removing supply.
How can you explain this phenomenon of supply/demand without a systemic-short position? Every shorted share must be bought back, and retail is literally removing the shares from the free float. This should be sending the price SKYROCKETING.
The shorts are trapped and there is no way to explain it otherwise. We have won and the lower the price goes the worse it gets for them. Also, we have ALWAYS WANTED to see the price drop because it means the hedgies can't maintain a higher price point. No short position is profitable unless you close the position by BUYING. GME is nowhere near bankruptcy, and is actually cash-flow positive. GME is idiosyncratic BECAUSE it is illiquid.
Go read a book on LTCM called "When Genius Failed". It is about a hedge fund that was on the cusp of blowing up because they took on a MASSIVE position in illiquid Italian bonds. The worlds first bailout occurred, facilitated by the Fed along with the help of every single Investment bank. (Lehman and Bear Stearns did not help in the bailout and they didn't survive 2008, either LOL).
