well the real reason is that they are regulated. if fraud was afoot in the same way at FTX whistles would be blown so fast your eardrums would explode

there are of course ways regulated companies can evade prosecution (temporarily) which is why we have insurance on real financial accounts backed by the government. when people lost their money they were crying for the centralized power of government to help them after shitting on the government and thinking shitcoins were the future because of decentralization. just finished reading George Soro's "The Alchemy of Finance" and i gotta say, i think i've misjudged the guy. He's actually pretty alright:

>book itself wasn't meant to be a book on economics, but rather, philosophy, as he first wanted to use his "Theory of Reflexivity" in a philosophical context, rather than economic
>original title was supposed to have been "The Burden of Consciousness" which he said was the best part already since he wasn't happy with his own writings explaining it in purely philosophical terms lel
>since he couldn't into philosophy, he instead uses economics as the medium in which to express his ideas, since markets are "the perfect experimental laboratory"
>basically the book talks about him dabbing on people who are too grounded on false premises about the market, which imo is the key takeaway
>and i mean like, fundamental false premises
>admits that he made his fortunes from people making economic forecasts based on modern economic theories of assuming this and that (that people are rational actors, return to equilibrium, etc.

>> No.53068551

>>53068543
>gives names like Keynes and friends
>that chuds make these models, are wrong, and therefore, you can dab on them by investing the other way. pretty based.
>keeps hammering is contribution of "reflexivity" which is a fancy word for "feedback loops"
>basically if people keep on believing bullish or bearish hype, it'll contribute to itself, making market swings higher and higher, till it pops, and then reverses harder and harder
>this is why Soros says fundamental economic theory of returning to equilibrium is fake and gay, because economics is NOT a natural science despite people trying to force it with too much unfounded math. redpilled.
>t's also why he describes his system as "Alchemy" and not "Science" of finance, because he makes money from nothing, just taking advantage of people's false premises and bad policies (he mentions his victories over merger bonznanzas and shorting overhyped tech stocks)

also he rants a bit about muh open society which he contrasts is not actually globohomo, but just a vague idea of free markets + regulation. aka he wants to maintain and support the environment that has permitted him to excel, which is fair enough imo. BUT he hates bureaucrats and making things hard for people and equally loathes gommunism/marxism. basically enlightened centrism.

overall 8.5/10 is really wordy, abstract, and high level but interesting nonetheless

If this was 2020 or 2021 I would say you were absolutely correct otherwise. That's not even getting into two thirds of a trillion dollars in distressed debt worldwide with half of that being in the states alone and a bunch of other really shitty indicators. If normally when line looks like people want it to go down so it will actually go up is the way shit has worked when the printer was running at full speed and rates were at zero then I would expect that to not actually be the case with rates going up and the printer barely running if at all.

basically yeah his policies right now may be very pro this or that, but that he reserves the right to change it if it starts going too far. like i said, a kind of centrism. how far is too far though, we may not know until long after we've eaten the bugs...

Question for anyone using Schwab. I'm still very new to investing, I made a brokerage account with Schwab and then later I opened up a checking account with them. I use a local credit union as my main bank, but I wanted to spread out some of my eggs because they're not the best and as I said I wanted to invest so I figured why not there's no fees.

So I saw you get a debit card obviously, but the person on live chat mentioned that the checking is used as overdraft for the brokerage account. I don't understand what this means.

So if I invest say $50 into a fund say s&p500 and I set it to keep investing that money will never touch the checking correct? The value stays in the brokerage account?
However if that $50 grows to $100 in that brokerage, and I decide to sell completely, it all gets moved into the checking? Is that what this basically means?
Because it didn't make me make a checking account when I made the brokerage. So it doesn't make sense to me how that would work if I didn't have a checking account with them.
Was trying to look around on their site and online but wasn't sure how to word this question to get an answer I can understand.

hey fren, i have the same kind of account. how it works is you get two account numbers, one brokerage, one checking account. think of these like buckets, they hold stuff in them

the brokerage account holds stocks and things, while the checking only has cash. now the thing about that brokerage account is that it can also hold it's own cash value, that is, money not invested into anything in particular

so you buy $50 into the fund, you are *in* the fund. it's not in cash money form, and you can't withdraw it. your cash bal in the brokerage would be zero. now if you sell the same fund for $100, you would have $100 in the brokerage. now it;s in cash, and you can withdraw it (granted you gotta wait trade date and 2 biz days as settlement but still)

the thing about schwab accounts with checking is they're connected. if you have $100 sitting in the brokerage account as cash money, if you've got $50 in your checking, and you write a check for $150, the check is NOT going to bounce. it automatically takes money from the brokerage. that's it.

hope this helps. schwab's 24/7 so i'd call them btw if you have questions, they're actually really nice

Ok I think I understand.
And with your check example, this only works if the money is not actually invested right? So for keeping track of things it couldn't hurt if I sell instead of letting it sit in the brokerage, to simply move it over to the checking (or savings) I guess?

I was actually wondering if I should also open a savings with them. I have one with my credit union, but I think instead of letting large money sit in the schwab checking which is attached to the debit I should throw it in savings and move it out of savings as needed? This is how I do it with my current CU.

Also curiously what do you find the easiest way to deposit cash into Schwab? Local bank and then just link account and transfer?

>this only works if the money is not actually invested right?
yes, and remember that the money has to have settled first. whenever you sell something, you gotta wait X amount of days before it settles, meaning ready to withdraw in the context. could be T+1 day (options contracts, mutual funds) or T+2 (stocks) like if you sell on a monday, T+2 means ready for withdrawal on wednesday

works for the debit card too. for withdrawal purposes it does use bank account cash first and then brokerage

>So for keeping track of things it couldn't hurt if I sell instead of letting it sit in the brokerage, to simply move it over to the checking (or savings) I guess?
you can do this, but if you're an active trader it may not make sense since if it's in a diff account, moving it back can take time. also the connection is only one way: if you overdraw your brokerage account like if you try to buy stocks that's too expensive to your cash, it DOES NOT automatically withdraw from the checking account

>I have one with my credit union, but I think instead of letting large money sit in the schwab checking which is attached to the debit I should throw it in savings and move it out of savings as needed?
ehhh the savings account isnt too good imo. honestly if you want a higher yield, look into something called money market funds. Schwab has one called SWVXX, decent 4%ish yield right now, i can tell you more about it if you want

basically you just hold it and you get interest. the rate can fluctuate tho, can go higher (esp if powell continues raising it) or lower. if you want to lock in a rate you can do a CD on a brokerage acc tho, but there's a time commitment involved then

>Also curiously what do you find the easiest way to deposit cash into Schwab? Local bank and then just link account and transfer?
easiest is just adding your 3rd party bank to the Schwab website and initiating a online bank xfer. you see your money post in like 1-2 biz days, no fees

GDP was revised up, why the fuck would earnings in Q1 take a big hit when muh consumer is still too strong according to bears? you either have weak consumer and weak growth / earnings or not..
betting like the media heads like to tell you we drop hard in Q1 makes no sense
this is how it plays out in Q1: CPI in Jan comes in softer, earnings comes in better market goes into full bull exhuberance leddit short squeeze mode but inflation will stay sticky on around 4-5% level and the economy will weaken so the big """unexpected""" dump/crash will come later in 2023 not at the beginning.
I'll switch to bobo after Q1 when everybody and their dog are telling us the next golden bullrun is 2 weeks away, not when everybody tells me we dumping hard in Q1

Stocks are boring.
Shits been flat for so long. Losses getting, wins less often. Just stuck at the same level each day.
I want to start a business but I'm an autist that has been told all his life that he can't do anything right.
Where are all the frens that want to partner up?

If you fucking faggots could point to ONE SINGLE SENTENCE of new information that lines up with every single chart shitting the bed in unison I would stop asking, but you literally cannot do that. It should be easy for you, right? If your bear thesis is so strong, you should be able to point to why the market sells off as if someone said something pertaining to...literally everything

What's the significance of the US bond yields?
I know they go up when the Fed raises rates. How does demand effect the price? What does it look like for there to be a crash or crisis in the bond market? Isn't this why they faked COVID? Or was it after they faked COVID?

Maybe you want something that has outperformed bonds and stocks this year, maybe you are okay with the lack of liquidity because you have a fully funded emergency fun. But maybe you are poor, or aren't looking for consistent results. For me it's about 2% of my portfolio, I would go 5% but prosper doesn't have a TOD policy (so no more than $10k).

Shut the fuck up retard, it's going down because it's supposed to. It's like the weather, sometimes it's not so cold even though it's winter, well sometimes the market goes up even though it's a bear market, but then it goes back to going down. The markets are at least as chaotic and complex as the weather, and here you are like a retard seething for weeks about how no one can explain why exactly line go up or down today.
