I won the lottery back in 2020, and after paying the taxes I got 1.3 mil out of the whole fucking thing which is great cause im a loser neet with no aspirations.

In two years I managed to spent 300k somehow. I have just over 1 mil left and im kind of scared im gonna go back to being broke again except this time itll be worse because

>moved out of parents house
>can easily get homeless
>no job, just living off savings

I mean I was a depressed loser with suicidal ideations before I won some money, and I never got out of that mindset. What should I do? Honestly should I just take the suicidepill (aka cyanide) ?

Although anon in some ways I can relate. I lost $5mn over the last 1.5 years. I have never felt so poor and dumb as I do now. Losing a lot of money is like seeing the world turn from colorful to gray, it just isn't as fun and exciting as it was before. And this despite that I still have a job paying $175k and a net worth of about $2mn, yet I have never felt so poor in my life and contemplated suicide as well. But then I think about all the whores turning 18 every year that need to get fucked and prevent my from suiciding.

Unironically this. I’m going back to school for a masters coming up here and have a burn rate setup, unfortunately renting so I wish I could be in your position, but buy a condo, rent a room out for cash flow and for social accountability with a roommate, take up whatever self-improvement lifestyle to heart that you want to and just be diligent about it. Also, buy a dog, that will give you something to be responsible about and give you an excuse to go do social things, walk around your neighborhood, teach it tricks, pick up women.

If your burn rate is near neutral (room mate rent and odd jobs/gigs/min wage job - physical labor is the best while you’re young) you have time to figure out what you want to do.

Bro I’m 28 with a liberal arts BA. Got one because I didn’t know wtf I was doing in life and my parents paid for it.

Been wandering around, “done with school”, until a family friend mentioned substitute teaching.

With sub teaching you go where called until a school likes you and you become a “house sub”. 90 percent of public schools can get aids but my place has good kids, and as corny as it sounds, I like helping them out.

It’s made me wanna get my masters and be a teacher.

That’s my path in life though (maybe) not yours.

The point is, you gotta go out there and try shit.

You have a leg up in life, buy a cheap condo with cash so you’ll never be homeless, and just start looking for a field you might be interested in.

In the meantime, you’re still 26, get a delivery job in a restaurant, don’t be an autistic monkey, and flirt with waitresses.

you have a mil in cash tax free and the self-awareness to realize you could still go broke if you don't get your finances in control. first, what did you spend the $300k on? you said you moved out of your parents house. if you spent it on a house this isn't a big deal. if you spent it on partying for 2 years wasted a lot of money.

first is you need to lock down a place to live. now fuck whatever is being said about a housing bubble, or property being an illiquid investment. housing has utility value (you can live in it) and that value doesn't fluctuate with market conditions. also you're retarded with money so locking up a good chunk of your money in real estate for a good long time isn't a bad idea.

you can get a nice house in a lot of areas for around $4-500,000. look for something you like around that price range. or go to any realtor in a city you like and say you want to buy cash around that price range and need help looking for a home, they'll show you listings. just buy the thing outright 100% down.

now after this calculate 20 years of property tax payments, utility payments, home insurance payments, and health insurance payments. put this in a monthly dividend ETF earning over 5% annually. pay these bills off with the dividend money.

get some guns, nice stuff for your house, water filters etc., so you can be comfy. you now have a position of nothing being able to really fuck you up, and probably 200-300k left over.

this is money you can continue to be a retard with while you find something to do with your art degree, but you're going to need to eventually. the good thing is even if it's a shitty paying job you'll already have most major expenses taken care of and can put that money to lifestyle stuff, car, etc.

base whatever car you buy on the income you get from your actual job. don't spend more than 15% of your income on car and auto insurance payments. if that means you drive a 1999 jetta then drive a 1999 jetta.

best advice in the thread, although spending $500k on a house seems unnecessary. If he's planning to live by himself, he can easily find high quality 2/1 style houses for $200k even in nice places. I doubt OP needs a 5/3 with a half acre yard in Virginia outside of DC

I will add onto this that OP should buy a duplex/fourplex instead of a house so he can live in one of the units and rent the others. Easy money if he lives in a good neighbourhood and picks decent renters. Also farmland is underrated and cheap but pays well.

Whatever you do tho, make sure create a company and put the assets in that company so you get massive tax savings and so you can pay yourself dividends (fuck paying into any pension program) then get some accounting firm to manage it. You will literally pay almost 50% less taxes as now your basics now become deductions.

If you had 1m in liquid cash rn put ~650k into investments (pick 3 unique markets) yes it isn't the best time but if you blew through 300k and don't know how you buy things on impulse that you likely don't need. With 350 that isn't invested put another 150k into a savings account you can't touch easily (like you have to go down to a physical bank to move the money around so probably a local credit union) the other 200k you keep in your base account should have 3-4 and use all of them for specific reasons to see we are largest dump of funds are and try to live off that the longest you can it will help bring financial awareness.

1. Buy a vacation property and airbnb it. You can make 1k a day if its nice during the summer months. Buy a small trailer and park it somewhere near the property and live in that while you airbnb the place.
2. After deducting taxes, fees and shit then you can live off 40k a year.

Buy a homestead, learn homesteading and permaculture and become a happy man. Trust me. You don't have to aspire to more than nust being happy, and watching cropsband animals grow that you are taking care of does make a man happy. It's a direct investment of time and energy which, if you do it right, will yield direct returns as well. And there are levels of difficulty here: easier crops to grow than others, easier animals to raise than others. Some needs little to no tending, like potatoes or goats. Just an idea here man.
I am wageslaving and even tho my wuality of life is pretty decent (EU), I still only see this all as a step to attaining what I described to you.
I envy you for the amount of resources you have that you could immediately put into a nice little farm. Buy some photovoltaics, a water collection/purification system, and you'll be a king among men. Believe me.
I just gave you a very good recipe of what you can do to become both happy, self sustainable and be as independent as one can without going full innawoods.
