is industrial maintenance a profitable career?

glorified mechanic

no because you'll be working a lot of mandatory overtime, probably on rotating shifts for the first 5-10 years of your career. my dad has been an industrial mechanic for the past 30 years.

>> No.52963483

industrial maintenance is only worth it if you can meet the following criteria:
>work based in US, Scandinavia or Finland
>work shiftless (i.e work almost every day of the year)
>allowed to work minimum of 12 hours every day
>minimum per diem $30

i've done this gig in sweden and norway and managed to get out around 100-130k euro before tax yearly but i quit since you'll break both your body and your mind. but as an uneducated idiot there is not more that will pay better

doesn't matter if you only see your kids when they're asleep and your wife resents you (or cheats on you) because you're always away.

It's a good stepping stone. I went from CNC field tech(48k/yr) to I&C tech at an industrial gas facility(68k/year but did a LOT of overtime from being on call so usually cleared $75k) and am now an inside sales engineer(80k/year but no more overtime). This was all over the course of the past 8 years. I did not go to college.

lmao ive literally been looking into getting out of IT, and into being a CNC tech for the past 40 minutes. Just about everything ive read and seen has turned me away from the idea.

- Shitty boomer owners running their shops on skeleton crews. Allowing machines to turn into slag covered garbage that need a complete rebuild, all the while the boomer inheritors are cursing your name for oncoming repair bill.

>Shop workers distrust you for being what they perceive as white collar. They may fuck with you or even sabotage you. Everyone is just mad all the time cause everyone is unhealthy, and the shop is run incompetently.

>Mandatory overtime. Hope you don't have a family, aspirations for a family, or interest in doing anything other than working, bro. Real men WORK their lives away!

>You'll still be body and mind broken like any other tradie, and you'll be lucky if you pull 45 to 50 grand for this.

I learned my lesson. I'm getting back to the books, and sticking with specializing in IT.

i know dupont techs doing instrumentation making $43/hr

>> No.52967218

>>52967135
Like all things it depends where you live. Where I live Dupont/Eastman/She'll/etc etc going rate is around 34/hr for instrumentation. Maybe an extra dollar or 2 if you work rotating shifts.
