Former sailor anon (aircraft carrier). Navy sucks complete ass and I was miserable my entire time in. Wi-Fi is not good on a ship from a tactical standpoint, enemy ships/subs can pick up signals through the hull of a ship giving away its location. Sometimes we’d be able to hear Russian subs sonar pings while in berthing spaces, it sounds like a whistle. But in all regards, fuck the navy. I’m laughing watching their recruitment numbers go down. They treated us like garbage during my 2 deployments, all I see is karma coming around. As far as the markets, I’m hopeful, it was a huge market overreaction, and have some calls hoping SPY will bounce. 380 seems a solid support level.

we already have consensus on everything practically
>doesn't make sense to talk about individual stocks
>even if the company is doing well or has a great catalyst the overall macro picture is so bleak that their great performance can be obliterated in a single day by a new normal daily S&P500 move (2-3%)
it doesn't make sense to invest in individual companies here, when they will get cheaper in the future, when the overall market is downtrending even the best of the best companies will fall under pressure
>what do we invest in then, if we want to be long?
bonds, consumer staples, healthcare, recession proof sectors
there is no news to look forward to, there are no big catalysts on the horizon
the only thing we have to wait for now is Q4 earnings starting mid january
there is nothing to discuss..
the discussion is no longer even "how high for how long?" it's "how much damage has been done, how much will growth be hurt"
everything is bearish, risk-off environment
not as fun and exciting to talk about, when the market is two sided
why would I invest in any individual stocks when the S&P500 is going 10% lower at minimum in 2023
and until Q4 earnings start coming out, what is there to discuss about the way the market will move, other than speculating about shit retail sales figures and shit personal savings resulting in a terrible earnings season and whether it's been fully priced in or not

it depends on the stock, and it depends on your investment time frame
if you're fine with them bleeding out for half of the year, but then rebounding in the second half, then it doesn't make sense to
but if you cannot handle the stress of watching months of downticks then maybe
if your stocks are tech or growth, yes imo I would
if they are stocks like MCD, JNJ, UNH recession proof stocks then I wouldn't
if your company is a zombie company get the fuck out
but if your company actually produces goods/services that people use, has positive cash flow, pays a dividend, you don't need to panic sell
but know that even these recession proof stocks will also take a beating

oil is likely to fall further, or at the very least stay in a lower range
brazil political uncertainty may also way on PBR, outside of the normal expected market move to the downside
dollar is likely to rise for the next several months putting pressure on commodities in general
uranium miners will also move close with the market - it's possible there's some catalyst with EU nuclear but unlikely to outweigh general market move to the downside
I think that both UEC and PBR will be trading lower than they are here by April
but who knows how much lower
Fed will not be easing until June at the earliest, and more likely to be later than that than sooner

You guys go try it, do what he did. Go pick a random ticker. Go study it, put hours into it. Fi d out the details of that stock, and then make sure it's a stock that you have no desire to ever purchase. Now that you did all that research on the stock you know you'll never buy, go to that message board and tell everyone why it wad a horrible decision to buy that stock. Go into to detail. Just make sure you have no interest in it. Then keep checking in on their board to keep informing everyone there about what you know. Ummm do JLL. These guys are insanely nice and do it for us, hours worth. So you go do a random ticker...you don't care about your time, right?

And thanks OP for all the time you and your anti-gme compadres give up for us. Free time seems to not mean much to you, so we are lucky there are people who aren't doing anything with their private life.A2VRV2

150@112.5, 10@99, 100@94. Totally just under 105. Again, it is a good buy, 5 years out you'll be a happy man. The next 6-12? Looks rough, I think it could go as low as 70. Would I try to time it if I didn't already have a position? Nah. Risk reward is what, a -15-20% draw down? Vs missing out and it going back to ATH at 190? More than a double. I'm not buying more now because my position is decent, but I'm also unwilling to sit around on dead money, so I'll sell calls to average down. Amazon is now effectively flat for half a decade, the day will arrive when it fucking rips, but not in a recession, and not when the Fed is strangling capital, and not until amazon stops setting 100s of billions of dollars on fire every year with its goofy side projects.

I just read that Semaglutide is the new hotness as a weight loss drug (low side effects, very effective, $15k/year regimen being googled as often as viagra). I used to sometimes do debt consolidation loans as a mortgage banker, basically cash out loans refinancing their mortgage if they had enough equity and everything, but we got the house as collateral, of course. I'm assuming no collateral for these, but yea the returns are nice, assuming they don't get laid off, divorced, fired, get in a car wreck, have a clot shot attack, get arrested, etc etc

It's working for me. Returning about 6% net. Interest rates went up quite a bit this year. The taxes are more work than the forms a brokerage account gives you. The net interest is taxed at your marginal tax rate, just like a 1099-INT. I thought it'd be a good source of income in retirement, but I decided to go a different direction and drew down half of it, putting it into the stock market. The past year I would have been better off reinvesting my returns in Prosper, but during a real downturn without stimulus money going direct to the people, it will perform like the stock market.

Yes, interest income is taxed just like a savings account (well the tax rate is like a savings account) gross interest is reported on a 1099-INT, charge offs are reported on a 1099-B. I ran it up to 10k, and pulled out around 5,500 to fund other things. You can only withdraw cash, not any invested loan principle. Monthly payments consist of two parts principal payment (no tax) and interest (taxable).

you can buy them directly yourself from the treasury website, it's very easy
or you can buy them through your broker
it also depends on the timeframe of the bond you're buying
if you're buying something very short dated, you're not getting a coupon, you're just getting whatever the maturity is
if you're buying something further out, you get payments every 6 months plus the maturity at the end
right now shorter dated are paying higher, so you would be buying the 6 month or 1 year
so you wouldn't receive monthly payments, but the payment overall would be larger
for example the 1 year is paying 4.64%

Bonds can be less liquid meaning finding good fills can be rough. Bonds you buy like treasuries essentially in groupings of 100. You buy the bond expiring in june 2022 for 99 28$. In june at redemption you receive the full $100. In addition bonds provide a regular coupon rate at which the bond was issued at. So you might receive 2.75% or 3% of the value.. If thw coupon is lower than the market rate of the fed then the bonds face value is cheaper. If you arent afraid of risk there are stinky bonds yielding 12-15%.
