For normalfags I would say you might be right however I watch the VIX futures like a hawk, each individual contract. My futures account in pic related shows real time order book, dom, and prices cross referenced with the VVIX to make sure premiums on my VIX calls are low and I only take a trade when the setup is exactly right. And for what it's worth if the greeks scare you just buy deep in the money on the 8th month out. Contango between the last few months is averaging about 1% or less right now so as long as you know what you're doing when you buy you'll make bank
