I was a grocery manager for years, we used to donate just about everything eatable to the food pantries for the tax right offs on shrink and not having to pay to dispose of it, the stuff that went into the bins was sold to a pig farm as it wasn’t fit for human consumption but edible.
Margins are pretty good on bakery and produced foods but they become unsalable quick but you need to have variety represented or you won’t make the sale.

Also be careful eating out of the bins, it may be the pig bucket that is risky but edible or it might be the compost that got sprayed with sanitizer by the new girl. I wouldn’t risk it, the places I worked at most of the salvageable stuff went to our shelters and domestic abuse homes.
