I'm thinking of selling my entire gold stack (12kg) to buy more shitcoins. What do you think, lads? Or probably at least the coins. I have 60 x 1oz Britannias which make me feel like some kind of creepy paedo.

Back to stacking weight next year though. I want to get a bunch sovereigns and ten or so20 franc lmu pieces so i would have enough of them to use in my board games. Also more silver but im not sure what kind. Maybe French semeuses or 5 franc LMU pieces if i can find them at decent prices.

Gold is hard to fake due to its density. Tungsten is close in density to gold but is unlike gold in every other way including color, malleability, ductility, electromagnetic characteristics, harmonics, etc. As other anon said, purchase from a reputable dealer and the chances are near zero. People have been buying and selling with gold and silver for three THOUSAND years! Do you imagine they didn't figure out ways to detect frauds?
And it is even easier now with cheap, highly accurate electronic scales, calipers, and machines like picrel.

Your biggest problem is missing the boat. Don't let imaginary problems sink you.

>> No.52871646

Easiest ways to spot fake gold coins? Ping it. A pure gold coin will make a lovely ping sound if you balance it on your finger and tap it with something solid. Gold plated tungsten does not ping.

Tungsten is the only metal with a density that comes close to matching gold, so you can just measure and the weigh the coin to weed out any other possibility.

Bros is this case perfect for silver coins if I just put it in a drawer you think it’s okay to protect against oxidation and do you think it might contain pvc it only says it contains plastic.

>> No.52871841

>>52871800
Only way to fight oxidation is airtight containment. Airtight capsules are more important than the case itself. Exposure to air containing sulfur / sulfates is what causes tarnish.

>> No.52871904

>>52871874
As long as the case is somewhat sturdy, sure. If you're just worried about tarnish, keeping the air away is more important, so the capsules being airtight is the key. Look into reviews of them.

I like my sturdy metal ammo box though because it won't melt so quickly in the event of a fire and it has a handle so I can grab it on the way out of my place if need be.

Yea, if you look closely you can see the printer pattern, the ponies are pixelated. I'm used to the fact that nothing is perfect when bringing ponies into the real world. And I would've really preferred G4. It's the first edition, so it had to be G1, imo. But it doesn't really show in person. They look a uniform color ~3 feet away. Platinum is a lot cheaper than Gold right now, an alloy of Platinum and Gold (with added Copper to balance out the color and density) would be nearly impossible to distinguish from higher purity Gold by density or ping (or most other tests).
As for Tungsten, you aren't going to be able to mix it with Gold since its melting point is higher than the surface temperature of the sun, but a 3 mm thick Gold coin with a 1 mm thick Tungsten Wafer in the middle would be difficult to detect as a fake.

If you want to speculate on pm you're better off using GLD and SLV, or better yet miners with divvies. Now watch them claim that physical is better because the financial system will collapse any moment and you're gonna survive by trading krugerrands to your local farmer for wheat. I have found cigar humidors to be very good for metals. You do have to be sure the humidor is good quality though. Metals are a LOT denser than cigars and require more structural integrity. Also, beware you don't get one too big. When full, that box will probably weigh 15 kg or so.

> Platinum is a lot cheaper than Gold right now, an alloy of Platinum and Gold (with added Copper to balance out the color and density) would be nearly impossible to distinguish from higher purity Gold by density or ping (or most other tests).
I wouldn’t call that a lot, but yes, it’s cheaper. But if you factor in the costs of doing a good fake (that still needs a lot of gold) I’d guess you’d end up with a way too slim profit margin to even bother.
>As for Tungsten, you aren't going to be able to mix it with Gold since its melting point is higher than the surface temperature of the sun, but a 3 mm thick Gold coin with a 1 mm thick Tungsten Wafer in the middle would be difficult to detect as a fake
AFAIK that’s how fake gold is done (at the high end). Can anyone paste that China-fake-gold screenshot? But how big of an issue it is, I don’t know.
However, please someone correct me if I’m wrong, that should only apply bar sizes that are not an issue for /pmg/. At the price range we can afford, the cold coating would be so thin that it would be noticeable, or the tungsten core so slim that it’s essentially .925, but with W instead of Cu

Humans instinctively recognize gold and silver as money even if they think they're above it. When fear overtakes them, they will fall back on their instincts. Think about how guns reached record sales a few years ago when violence in cities started getting out of hand. Which is why I want to be there first.

Gold is objectively better than silver by orders of magnitude. Doesn’t tarnish, better conductor of heat and electricity, it’s yellow and the best yellow metal. Soft, heavy, in alloys it is the stronger one by property.

There is no metal better than gold. It’s arguably the best element. Sure carbon has more uses but carbon is shit.

Gold is the king followed by the platinum group metals. After ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, platinum; Silver, copper and mercury are distant followers.

Gold is the undisputed king.

There's already been heavy talk about what would happen if the state decides to confiscate your precious metals and they would take your gold and ignore your silver. Right, so your idea of alloy with tungsten or uranium is stupid. Yes, you can alloy gold with copper or silver, etc. Guess what? It has been for thousands of years and is easy to detect with touchstone or density.

You could, in theory, balance copper and platinum in an alloy to mimic the density of gold. But a touchstone would detect it, as would chemical tests, as would electromagnetic tests, as would - probably - the ping test because harmonic qualities would not be the same.

The tungsten wafer buried in the coin will disrupt a ping test and an electromagnetic test. It could also easily be detected by a deflection test. Tungsten is extremely stiff.

Additionally, a tungsten insert in a coin would make it impossible to stamp the coin in a normal die because tungsten is extremely hard and brittle. The best way you could get tungsten into a coin would be to hollow out a coin through a hole in the rim and fill it with tungsten dust. But it would still fail a ping test and an electromagnetic test.

Gold will not tarnish and will not cause tarnish. It is very close to being completely inert chemically.

Pls let us all know where you buy silver or gold for spot price? LCS will always fuck you over on premiums, but premiums are basically ubiquitous when it comes to metals, it's just a matter of which is the lowest.

If you can't sell the product for what you paid for it, then you're the sucker. There are plenty of angles to acquire PMs for below immediate resale price, even at the LCS. Notice I didn't say spot because spot is generally irrelevant when it comes down to any individual physical transaction.

The copper in the alloy patinas and the rosy blush goes away. Just fyi. You could probably give them the egg treatment to accelerate the process.

So you think farmers are just going to eat their entire crop by themselves? "Wheat for dinner AGAIN Dad? Can you PLEASE stop killing the customers?"

Not really clear on how production and trade work, are you?

You should wait to buy PMs until businesses are willing to sell them to you for what they paid for them. Good luck.

Maybe you do, you fucking Sally-Sissy-Marry. You got your irrational fear most likely from your mother. Men being afraid of lesser creatures infuriates me, but then again, I'm Gen-X, the last generation of real men.
