They're going to run a specialized background check on you to assess your social and financial status, likely because you'll be coming into contact with confidential or sensitive material. They want to make sure that you won't be inclined towards or susceptible to anti-state activity such as disseminating that material in an unauthorized fashion.

Of course, if you're applying for a clearance you should... probably research what it is. The steps of the process and the reasons for having them are clearly documented.

I'd suggest you don't go to Wikileaks from now on, lol.

Enjoy the polygraph test, hope you didn't do any fucked up shit as a kid and still have it back in your subconscious because they ask deeply personal and often bizzare questions (Have you ever engaged in bestiality etc).

Yea you're right, I just like fucking with Off topic OP's. For a standard secret clearance it's mostly just a criminal, financial and major life events background check (filed for bankruptcy, undergoing divorce, been incarcerated etc)

>>52776616
It's a golden ticket. No, really. You see, it's a very special barrier to entry because you literally can't get one unless you're sponsored by a company. And, it gives you access to thousands of jobs that go unfilled every year because whoever it is doesn't want the hassle or paperwork of getting someone a clearance, so they say >secret clearance only
It's just another feminized credentialism for women and minorities to try and protect themselves from getting outworked in a meritocracy

>> No.52777029

>>52776901
That's a you decision. The main trouble is if you come into contact with classified material and disseminate it without authorization. You can get into legal or criminal trouble for that. If you trust yourself not to do that kind of thing knowingly, it's not that big of a deal. If you apply for the clearance and they reject you, you lose the job, that's it. It's not like they're opening a criminal investigation into you or something.
But again you should be looking this info up yourself and asking whoever manages the process for your company whatever questions you may have. We're just idiots on a cat brushing enthusiast imageboard.

Well, now I've got a question. How helpful is it if you've previously had a clearance but were fired from the job you had it with? I know it expires after like 2 years and you have to go through the process again, but does it increase the likelihood of a new job saying, "Let's just do it."?

It means it’s an easy clearance to get. You’re going to fill out form sf86, don’t lie on it and be 100% honest about everything. Then someone from OPM is going to interview you and a bunch and family, friends, and neighbors. Anything you lie about will come out so again, don’t lie. The lie is worse than the actual act. Other than that once you get your clearance, stay sober, don’t do drugs, be a law abiding citizen, just don’t fuckup and congrats you will have a clearance which is useful in finding new jobs that pay slightly better which require clearances since many jobs don’t want to wait for new hires to get cleared. You might also be able to move up to a TS if the work you do requires it, which is even more sought after. I’ve been working in this world for more than 20 years, it’s not bad as long as you can follow rules and the law.
