is "paying for theta" a meme when scalping? I started the year with short dated options and have since moved out further to 20-30 DTEs but when those longer dated ones move -40% against you its too expensive to martingale without taking on a ton of additional risk in the form of deploying more capital at a losing position. So I go for weeks at a time scalping $0.10 per contract successfully only to get wiped out with one bad play (whether i get shaken out prematurely or i rightfully take the loss is irrelevant). My thinking with the short dated options is the cheaper premium keeps the maximum loss small in comparison to the 20 DTEs, can still get 200-300 deltas long or short with a 50 delta position (so they swing the same way for scalping purposes) and the theta decay on the 0 DTEs will act as a sort of natural stop loss. Less incentive to martingale a loser vs realizing the loss and flipping to the correct side. I dont have the discipline or mental strength to always be holding -20% positions that dont expire for 20 more days when algos can push this thing either way instantly. I can stand to lose $200, I cant stand to lose $2000 plus over and over again wiping out green days and weeks. Risking $5k for a $20 scalp just isnt the play for me, but i also dont know how to let winners ride, im out at first sign of green

that is what i am realizing now that the same thing has happened a few times to me now. Most days I am able to successfully scalp a couple hundred in profit, so even taking the occasional 100% loss on a 0 DTE play (assuming i didnt already sell for a loss sooner) wouldnt kill me. When I first started with the shorter dated ones I was doing irresponsible naked short strangles maxing my margin at every opportunity. I feel like going long 3 contracts max for a max position size of $300 and looking for $0.10 to $0.20 per contract on that is a lot more reasonable than the $800 contracts I have been playing with 30 days out trying to accomplish the same thing. The mental toll it has taken on me holding losers for multiple days is not a long term strategy, even if most of the time I am able to hold through the adversity into green or breakeven. Key word most of the time. It's that one time a month where i am just flat out wrong but still throw money at the position that I want to get away from. For better or worse 0 DTEs limit that as long as I stick to my max position size (which shouldnt really matter if im just trying to scalp 10 cents a contract)

The simplest way is to buy an ETF like BIL. BIL holds treasury bonds maturing in 1-3 months, so it's very safe. Right now the yield is around 4% and it'll rise a bit more over the next months.

Some brokerages also give you access to the bond market so you can buy them directly. This is better because you won't pay a fee, but to keep it easy just buy BIL. The dividend arrives on the 7th of each month.

absolutely. Nothing wrong with throwing in a high risk play from time to time if you are certain, but experience shows small consistent is what makes the gains. And about trying to save losing positions, I cant think of one instant where I didnt regret adding to a margin or opening more losing positions to average out praying to save the initial fuck up

>constantly losing dozens of millions in business operations
but interest on the debt has to be paid so
>equity dilution
because the receivables are questionable and going from current (paid in one year) to noncurrent (paid later if at all)
I don't think this is a great deal, you're paying about 450M if you adjust for the cash on the balance sheet. What you get in return is a company that is losing money consistently and dilutes shareholders to pay off interest on debt.
Or am I missing something?

>> No.52777156

The buildup you see reflects the value of the dividend. It drops at the end of each month because it's sending out that value to you in the form of a dividend on the 7th. So you don't need to sell it, just hold it and let the dividends get reinvested.

The reason the chart looks like that is because the price of BIL is very stable. It rarely moves up or down. The only price movement is to reflect the value from the dividend.

You don't have to wait until the beginning of the month to buy. If you buy now you'll get the same dividend but your principal will drop slightly more to reflect that you've held it for fewer days.

Yes, the Bin Laden family has very liberal richfags.

They probably have done more cocaine and drank more booze than Bill Clinton and his Epstein entourage could ever.

Is it seriously surprising that they celebrated Christmas/Thanksgiving? They are one of the richest families in one of the richest countries in the world.

No, you can enter and leave at anytime. If you sell before the end of the month you'll still receive a share of the dividend because it's reflected in the price when you sell. That's why you see those mountains forming on the chart. That's the value of the dividend being added.

that's even less of a reason to be afraid of being fired. that's a really easy explanation in an interview.

>i also dont know how to let winners ride, im out at first sign of green
Longer dated options are supposed to capture bigger moves. For example, with my carvana puts, where I sold the Januaries way too soon and missed out on a lot of the move, I started taking profits when contracts roughly doubled:

Bought Jan 20 2023 25.0 puts from 7/29 to 9/8, when CVNA was ranging from 28 to 50, for:
2.80, 3.70, 4.05, 5.00, 6.45
Sold for:
5.99, 7.12, 9.05, 10.20, 10.20

Bought Nov 18 2022 25.0 puts from 9/07 to 9/12, when CVNA was ranging from 32 to 42, for:
2.00, 2.80, 3.05, 3.60
Sold for:
4.98, 4.98, 5.07, 5.09

In cases where I'm less certain about future direction (Carvana was already dead), buying deeper out of the money keeps the capital cost lower. For example, I'm holding TQQQ March 2023 puts with strikes ranging from 5.0 to 11.0 and Jan 2024 puts at 10.0 and 6.0, which were bought on 12/5, 11/30, and 11/18 when TQQQ was around 22-23. Consider hedging with opposite positions, like puts on both TQQQ and SQQQ. I have 2025 SQQQ puts as a hedge and I sell a smaller number of current week SQQQ puts, so the combination of all three collects premium if the market doesn't go up, has a limited loss if it does go up, and wins big if it goes down a lot. Regarding still throwing money at a losing position, that usually does backfire hard. Plan out how much you're willing to expand the position before you start it, and stick to the limit.

>>52777472
>tier 2 of your position isn't going to exist sorry
Just use that as the explanation and frame it as a layoff. New employers don't like to hear shit talking about old employers even if they deserve it, but everyone is laying off all the time.

I didnt claim it was the best aircraft ever made dude. Its my favorite. Fun to fly, comfy interior, good range. Can take my family of four to Florida from Chicago no problem with a bathroom brake along the way (usually in Tennessee somewhere).

The most likely reason the pentagon didnt have security footage is because, like most government agencies in the early 2000s, they never actually anticipated having a fucking airliner crash into its walls and their security shit was most likely not working properly or ever checked. Guarantee the security company was Jamals stupid fucking nephew running the whole show.

The parking lot camera with a stupidly low frame rate caught something and the explosion. All the transponder data showed the plane going there. The reason there was no plane debris because if you hit a plane going 500 mph into a concrete wall, you are dealing with so much fucking kinetic energy being dispered in an instant, it atomizes everything into dust.

Again you know this, but it just makes you feel cool to remention loose change bs.

For the nearer TQQQ date it's a range with a bunch of different strikes selected based on which ones I could get the best deal on at the time. I put in a bunch of limit orders based on spreadsheet calculations and waited to see what would fill. The more distant date is less liquid, so its strikes are concentrated on two that were easier to fill. Algos like to take orders with more contracts at once.

The closer strikes are more responsive when the underlying moves and the deeper ones are more capital efficient, so taking profits on some of the closer strike/nearer date puts can pay off the cost basis, allowing the deeper/longer ones to run free. Selling the weekly SQQQ puts also helps work off the cost basis in addition to handling sideways price action.
