it's not THAT big of a deal to be fair. i'm young, i've got a great career going and making good money, and i'll either break even on a massive bear rally at some point or at least whenever the macro situation turns around as i continue to average down. but man, it feels like shit. once i get out im just going to stick to day trading for the rest of my life. which sounds weird until you realize that stop losses only happen intraday and you can only get gapped on if you hold stocks overnight, so it's actually the safest way to trade as long as you always follow the rules and trade with the wind at your back in highly active high volume stocks. after that it's just wash rinse repeat and winning more often than you lose. like, trend is up, momentum is up, you should be looking for entry points for long positions.
