what are some cheap towns or places you can walk around in america?

i don’t need anything major just any place you can get to groceries, couple stores, businesses etc on foot or bike easy.

things like college towns or older built cities where things are closer together.

i just want to live as frugally as possible. cheap rent, no car, cook my own meals
