Re: previous thread
Someone asked "What's on the other side?"
Nothing.
The rest of the coin is fine.
Though, now that I look at it, the other side does look as though the ridhes are flared.
Like slightly larger.
As though it's not a perfect disc, but one edge thicker than the other.
The clipped part has the thinner edge and the thicker has the ridges.
This is can't be more than a millimeter and a half at most.

It's totally not uncommon to find coins from the 18th century with some sort of surface-altering damage on them and still go for a decent chunk of change.
They're simply just that rare.

Just thought of a way to make decent quality coins without milling a whole new steel die. 3d print in super high resolution (ideally resin printer, but PLA/ABS smoothing with acetone could work as well) a thick puck with revers/obverse, coat in specialty very fine ceramic slurry, build up a few layers and smooth, simply use the composite pucks as a die. could possibly do runs of 10-100 or more coins. take two passes on the press if you need to.

someone pass this on to holocoinanon or something. idk could end up being a dogshit idea in the end but who knows. doing small runs for cheap is a gold mine, i know from experience.

What is the ceramic made out of? The problem with ceramics is they’re brittle. Not to mention, the press is a high end piece of machinery. Also, the layers will occlude the details every time you add another coat.

It doesn’t sound feasible to me, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I think you should experiment on your own and bring your findings back to the board.

or, hell, 3d print whatever you want as a puck, press it in clay, fire it for 3 hours, and you can chuck that on the press. Boom, new coin a matter of 6 hours. Compression strength of the clay is the only question. One could do this with cement also. A resin printer is all you really need for anyone to make this work at least okay-ish.

Couldn't it be a faulted coin? Mint errors do happen. And if it is the case, you might have found something worth a little fortune. I'm not expert in the matter, but some faulted coins can fetch truly absurd premiums, but it depend on the coin, the condition, the date, and most important on how "impressive" the defect is. Here since it's only impacting the edge don't expect a x100, but who knows..
You should definitely post it on numista, a dedicated fb group or forum and ask them about it.

What you want to do is a lost PLA casting. I'm actually working on this right now. I just 3d printed a few PLA bar molds, and put together about 50 lbs of green sand. I'm going to make a plaster and sand investment, fire it in my furnace to burn out the PLA. Afterwards I'm going to pour an aluminum casting that can be used as a planchet for coinage.

>> No.52727462

>>52727423
>Is 23k gold plated jewelry or plated cards worth an investment?
No. It's too expensive to recover the gold from plating, and with electroplating we are talking microns thick layers of gold, so basically nothing. Don't touch it with a 10ft pole.
If your budget is tight, just stick to silver and try to optimize your purchases.
You can eventually purchase scrap sterling silver on ebay, some good deals show up from times to times, but don't overpay it, as the refining process to cast it back into bars isn't super cheap either.

>> No.52727463

>>52727309
That is much more feasible imo. If you have an artist that does shallow relief in CAD programs and a ceramic that can take the punishment and not deform then you might have something there.

Plated jewelry isn't really viable. Different manufacturers will use different thicknesses of plating, but it never exceeds a few microns in thickness. You're spending money on base metals for the most part.

The other side is blank? Then this is a commemorative medal, and that number is the manufacturer's serial number, and it's not an Eagle, and we don't know if it's silver, though it would seem taking the time and effort to stamp a number would mean it has to be worth their while to do that.

Yup, sorry for the lack of coherence, was kinda writing my thoughts as they went.

I live in Mexico indeed, and for some reason the Mexican coins in PM are extremely expensive (more than a 100%) premium even though they are free of taxes.
I see the same kind of prices in American exchanges so it must be intrinsic to their minting and pricing.
Shipping from the us to Mexico is prohibitively expensive.

ATM my best bet is to go to the us on holiday and have them delivered to my hotel and go back without declaring it.
But I'd have to pay the price at the moment of my trip instead of being able to make the most of some discount. Still vastly superior to other alternatives for me now...

I'll buy Libertad for my goddaughter birthdays. One for each year, and then I'll give the collection when she's 18.

Anyone think it's likely you can encourage someone to stack even a modest amount if you give them their first ounce? Or do people not usually understand the hedge against inflation angle?

How often did SETF topics come up? That's how I encountered it though the hedge element is what really clicked with me.

For some people it will actually work, I mean started stacking because my grandpa gave me silver coins, but yeah for the normies of normie NPC's I doubt it would work because of: "the government will save us attitude" at least in the Netherlands. I did got my girlfriend stacking gold and silver by saying she should stack jewelery (not the best way, but better than nothing)

When I said "nothing" I was referring to the other edge, not the obverse of the coin face.
It's a normal American Silver Eagle with a normal obverse.
The edge itself, more or less opposite of the "clipped" part, is slightly thicker.
I just now made note of where these parts are.
The thicker edge it between the I and the E of "LIBERTY."
The thinner or "clipped" portion begins at the sun and ends at the right foot of the lady.
You could say the "clipped" portion is the 6 O'clock and the thick edge is almost opposite at 11 O'clock.
Or, from the obverse, the "clipped portion begins between the E and D in "UNITED" and ends between the A and M of "AMERICA."
The thick edge begins between the dot and the U of "UNITED."
The thick edge ends at the beginning of the E in the word "SILVER."
On the obverse the "clipped" portion is 11 O'clock.
The thick edge is 7 O'clock.
Back to the front face f the coin, there's a scratch going from the L to the E, though I think this is from handling.
It's also very slightly tarnished.
Not enough that you'd see it at a glance, on its own, though it's very obvious when you put it against another coin.
Again, it's otherwise a normal American Silver Eagle in every respect.

I'll see about looking into it.
I have no interest in selling it or getting rid of it.
It's a neat conversation piece.
I'm getting a little case for it so it can be my "pocket piece."
I used to keep the first round I ever bought on me, but I no longer want a "valuable piece" on my person.
This flawed ASE is perfect as something to slip into the pocket.
If I find out it's collectable or valuable, I guess I'll just have to switch it out with a regular round of some kind.
No matter.
I was initially upset to find this "clipped" coin and now I think it's great.
Strange how that works.

Depends in their temperament and personality, if they're more independent thinkers than the average person then chances are good, if they're garden-variety normans then no it probably won't work. My most schizo of highschool friends, definitely one who follows his own path, started collecting graded Morgan's and stacking silver after I repeatedly showed him cool stuff I was getting and finding over the years. More normie friends learned to watch for 90% coins and passively collected what they found, was cool when they'd proudly show me a few Mercs or quarters here or there they found in the registers at work but never got infected with the urge to really stack.

So that's the second mention of the normie hurdle, thanks. I'll see if the whole "transfer of wealth storage" line clicks with them. Good luck, it might work. Maybe bring up gold too, the GSR, and the fundamental value of PMs in other forms besides coin/bullion, perhaps some of them have a nice collection of inherited jewelry so you could try educating them about karat gold and sterling silver as a less straightforward but still valid form of exposure. If they realize they have the nucleus of a pirate hoard already they might get motivated to add to it.

That's a very attractive coin, draped bust silver is beyond based. A draped dollar in VG/Fine condition is a bucketlister for me. The obverse is particularly lovely, weaker strike or more wear on the reverse but still appealing. Since it's not graded (gouge above the bundle of arrows?) I'd pop it out of the slab and fondle it hard. Can you tell us what it cost? I always prefer genuine numismatics over modern contrived collectible "muh limited mintage" midwit-bait, couldn't care less about stuff like the 100 year anniversary silver dollars with fake mintmarks but that authentic old stuff has real character and tons of sovl, very nice work anon.

>>52730095
Not sure what country you're in but maybe an assortment of the more common old silver coins would jumpstart their interest. I've given circulated merc dime, standing liberty quarter and walking liberty half coins to friends and have observed that those obviously old and quite attractive coins make a strong impression when they physically hold and absorb them. Most didn't start truly stacking so be prepared for that but my efforts did spark the interest in a few friends, aside from the Morgan dollar collector fren they're not obsessed like me but several have tucked away tidy stacks as a reserve for hard times which realistically is all we should hope for.

Start growing your own food, install power generating equipment, swap out power consuming appliances for energy efficient stuff like LED light bulbs, scrap your TV licence and just use the internet, brew your own beer, make jewelry on the side and sell on Esty, seek out and speak to your local farmer to cut out the middleman supermarket. fed tightening strengthens dollar which causes other assets to lose value relative to the dollar including all commodities and gold and silver. can you imagine another factoe or variable that could cause the dollar to weaken besides lower interest rates? if foreigners no longer want dollars or no longer need them to trade for oil, then dollar becomes worthless, then what happens to precious metals?

you can use simple methods like specific gravity to figure out if a coin isnt the right weight. XRF tools also only tell you what the surface composition of a sample is, if you want to go deeper you have to drill a hole and scan the new surface below.

i only played penny dreadful on mtgo because i dont wanna spend a ton of money on the hobby. i do like low to the ground decks and i made a sweet boros knights deck that 5-0 a league.

mostly i like midrangey decks though, most of the time the meta simply doesnt allow them. the problem with pennydreadful is a lot of banned or broken combos can become legal simply because demand for those cards is low. so you can lose turn 2 because of a hermit druid /drawbridge bullshit or often turn 3 cascading into hypergensis nonsense. THE WORST deck to play against is azorious wave my god its so irritating. they just bounce your entire board with paralax wave and if you try to get rid of it, they just blink the wave or put the wave back on top of their deck with nevermaker. so things that answer creatures dont work, (they hide their own creatures under the wave) and answers to enchantments dont work either, only way to beat it is to play control deck and i neverliked playing control.

anyways, its not fun to just have these degenerate combos just go off so easily (forgot about worldgorger dragon and animate dead combo too) because the decks are just all goldfishing . no interaction at all jist seeing whose combo goes off most reliably or a glorified rock paper scissors. thsts why i liked the duel deck packs, because they were preconned, had some decent cards in them and were kind of balanced against each other. only paper magic i own is a kioa/elspeth duel deck. naturally wizards stopped making them because they were a good product

It’s not raping my earnings. It’s like £500 atm but it’s going to £800. It’s all the other costs going up at the same time. The mortgage I had was taken with the standard 3% stress test. But you don’t expect a global pandemic a war in Europe or an incompetent government to fuck to the economy as much as they did so because I had the last remortgage at sub 2% the jump to 5.5% will be unpleasant. Didn’t do anything wrong, put down like 75k deposit which was over a 1/3rd. Currently 200k equity or so.
Average uk house is 296k for a 800 sqft so selling up and moving to an even smaller house isn’t viable.
It’s a standard new build shitbox bought 9 years ago. CPI is 11.1 and my salary sure as hell hasn’t gone up by that much. It’s a combo of things. I can manage it’s just lame cos it’s all out your control.

Nobody will call your a traitor for trading rocks for bigger rocks, but we might question the timing. The real estate market is finally starting to collapse, why dive in now when the market will be desperate for buyers in few more months?
RE sales are already down -37% in the US compared to last year, bigger drop than during the GFC. Wait for this summer and enjoy a 20% cut on your home, plus probably lower rates for your mortgage.

Lions and friends.
Something VERY important came up and I will not be able to do a post market wrap-up today- I apologize for this.
Moreover, this Sunday I am leaving for Pearl Harbor Hawaii to fulfill the last wish of my dearest friend in the world, Ed Hall (Pearl Harbor survivor) who after his death, wished to have his remains returned to Pearl Harbor to rest with the friends he lost 81 years ago on December 7th 1941. Ed, as most of you know, passed away on 11/2/2022 at the age of 99 years. Ed was sincerely the greatest guy from the greatest generation… I miss him a lot.
I will not be back from Hawaii for a week, so my next video blog will be on Monday December 12th.
If you are a moderator of my YouTube blog, please, if you would, get rid of the scammers while I am away. I would GREATLY appreciate it.
My dear Lions and friends, remember to love each other, care about each other, and be charitable!
I will miss you! See you on Monday the 12th.
Much love,
GM

I got all mine on eBay. You sometimes get lucky if they have garbage search terms. It’s often funny. You’re typically bidding against someone who knows the same melt value as you. So you’ll often win by like 2p as you both enter bids at juuuuuust over spot then bail. Again though, this was back before the queen died.

Not with the current demography, that's for sure. Each community always fight for their own interests within a nation, that's why multiculturalism bullshit never stand the test of time. Hopefully, now whites are a minority in their own nations, they will understand they need to fight for their own rather than trust the (((gubment))) to do so.

Not a gold expert so i might say something dumb, but basically 12K is .500 fineness, and 1/20th is the ratio of gold to the total weight.
Lets assume this pendant is 10gr. Then it means it contain 0.5gr of 12K gold, i.e. 0.25gr of .999 gold.
So basically $14 worth of gold, and that's without the refining costs.

Not nothing it still has a value just a fraction of what it would be if solid gold.
Gold filled still sells for drastically more than plated on ebay. People strip the plating and refine it.

Gold Fill literally means filled with gold, not plated. If it's a chunky piece then it could still have a decent value.

>>52736045
Stacking cheap gold fill is absolutely profitable, but if you paid more than a dollar for it ya dun goofed. Live and learn bud. I usually see it marked as 1/20 GF 12K/14k/10k etc. Sometimes it's 1/10. Basically you take the weight, divide it by 20, then divide that number by whatalever karat multiplier you're working with. 50% for 12k. Jewelery is fun, but a different animal from coins.

Interesting. What else do you recommend? I found some nice cards that either destroy lands, or cause them not to untap. Sure, their effects are symmetrical, but I think it hurts way less white soldiers due to Preeminent Captain and Enlistment Officer, since you can put soldiers on the battlefield with little or no mana. I think Fortified Beachhead (land) is also a nice addition to soldiers. I think they're propping soldiers with Brother's War since this land came with it as well. I know some people play Chalice, Suppression Field and Chrome Mox.

Some potential soldiers:
High Sentinels of Arashin
Thalia's Lieutenant
Field Marshal
Brimaz, king of Oreskos
Anafenza, kin-tree spirit

I did some digging that might interest you fren.
Apparently this crest's owner was Georg Dury, who landed in Pennsylvania in 1733.

The first records of the Dury family date back to the XIIIth cent. in Scotland, and include: "Duncan de Durry witnessed a charter by Malise, earl of Strathem, c. 1258-1271. John Dury [who] was cleric in St. Andrews diocese, 1464, and Walter Doray [who] was one of the brethren of the Priory of Cupar, 1500. Mr. Andrew Dure was presented to the vicarage of Newtyle, 1519, George Dury witnessed a presentation in St. Andrews, 1526, and Joneta Durye had sasine of lands in Ayrshire.

Yeah that's the usual stax soldier list played in legacy, it's a solid list, especially with all the recent upgrades. I myself played such a list for a while back around 2014.
I'm assuming you speak about the legacy format, considering geddon and winter orb aren't legal in other competitive formats.
If so, you can't really go around the stax basis of ancient tomb+chrome for a T1 chalice/field if you want to stand a chance. Then usually wastelands + thalia and thalia heretic are enough taxes to keep the opponent from doing what he wants. Geddon/orb/etc.. are considered overkill.
The mana base is pretty much untouchable, with tomb + wasteland + cavern of souls + basic plains. Then you get to enjoy few karakas + the new Eiganjo + castle ardenvale as utility lands.

So what's up to you to decide is the creature base. Personally the mandatory x4 are Thalia V1 + thalia's lieutenant + valiant veteran + preeminent (+ the fatties you wanna cast for free).
I love Myrel as the fatty of choice, because contrary to Captain of the Watch she's easy to hardcast, and is almost as impactful, while allowing shenanigans with karakas; plus she also give a hard time to control decks and prevent all kinds of combats' tricks to happen by denying activated abilities.

Even though you run chalice, i believe Esper Sentinel to be an absolute must (and you can still play him once you have cavern otb), he's extremely impactful for only 1 mana.

In term of novelties i also love Brutal Cathar from Midnight Hunt, which can sometimes generate huge value if it flips a second time. He can eventually replace or go alongside Palace Jailer depending on how creature heavy is your local meta.

If budget is a concern, you can move toward pioneer. Chalice, chrome, tomb, all the stax stuff isn't legal there (only standard editions from RtR onward are legal iirc), but you can build your soldier deck for 150 bux rather than 1500.

>> No.52736604

>>52736275
I baked you a pioneer list displaying some of the recent soldiers printed in Brother's war so you can see what's up. I added a U splash becuz some of the soldiers are blue and aren't too shabby (for a limited format like pioneer at least).

Problem with equipments/stoneforge package is it's anti-synergic with suppression field, and field is such a massive tool to offer you time in early/mid. You want to make the card as assymetrical as possible, which is the strenght of soldiers. If you want to take the full stax road, i'd rather advise you to go for mono-B featuring Braids. But idk how the deck would perform nowaday tbf.

Tbdesu even though the spot gained 6 bux, the price barely moved over here, as the spot rose, the premiums went down almost proportionally.
I know it's a bit different for the US where you enjoyed prices closer to spot than the rest of the world for the past 6 months.

You know, things come and go in easy-to-read patterns with the silver market. The charts spikes up and down every month or so. This artifical volatility of the spot price is how the banksters are making their margins.
So be patient. Don't worry it will come up and down at least few more times before the comex go tits up.

For now : sit on your cash. Accumulate as much as possible, check the price daily and wait for a better entry price. This is how you lower your average, DCAing is a bait when it comes to PMs.
