Food, water, power, both bug-in and bug-out plans, those come first and are set. Man, I love my RMs. Especially those 2RM coins. They're pretty affordable compared to fresh fractional and contain just 5g silver each, which is about perfect for bartering or casually giving one away as a gift. The design is killer, too. I have a small amount of silver which I plan to hold forever, but couldn't imagine just putting all of my money into it endlessly without ever selling any. Sounds like you would end up effectively poor with a bunch of coins? What's the point?

I don't expect the dollar to survive the next 40 years and I don't want my kids to start poor. Thus, they will get a mix of fiat, bullion, and PM coins when they are 25 or married. If there's a monetary reset, you can preserve your current wealth through the chaos. If gold is revalued, you would sell, but quickly roll that into other hard assets like real estate. At this point, it's insurance against the monetary debauchery that's currently en vogue. I've already decided I'll hold until retirement, it's a savings vehicle for me. If I could buy a complete farm or something similar in the future because of massive gains, I would sell part. Yeah, it's not really worth it, but it's fun. And there's that gambling element, I guess. There is a (small to very small, but probably bigger than your average lottery) chance that it will pay off that day. There's some bigger things or some very packed cracks that might be worth a few hundred.
In my case, vid related is one pan out of 4, and the whole ordeal was 2 hours, including the bike ride to the spot and back home.

Yeah, got quite a bit of stuff out of that clay (no nuggets though), but filmed only one pan (second vid doesn't really convert well to webm). Took me like 1.5h to clean out the whole spot, so not too bad. Would have been much faster with a proper pump. I washed everything I couldn't scrape off the walls into the hole. Also gave that block a good rinse in my pan, it also had a few small flakes on it.
All in all, a nice way to nurse a hangover.
That cold water really got me awake.

i buy and hold for store of value in times of currency crisis. I'm canadian and dont trust the currency long term. i'll cash it out. as i need it. At 12% inflation it will be worth 3x in 10 years.

I buy and sell scrap and try to capture the premium when i can and hold scrap, coins, and bars. i predict inflation in canada will speed up since people already have a hard time renting apartments here because of price - and the gov will have to print money to pay housing subsidies - which over time will cause an inflation cascade. 12 percent inflation year over year IMO is even a low estimate. Once inflation picks up gold will moon relative to fiat.

Average rent in my city is 2500CAD. At 12 percent inflation that's 4000 CAD/ month average rent for a studio apartment in my city. That's the average take home pay also in my city after tax. That means at the current inflation trajectory the majority of people wont be able to rent and the gov will have to hand out subsidies. I dont know when the inflation cascade happens but for canadians i think it isnt far away.

when it happens i'll melt anything that i can't sell. even my omega constellation megaquartz.
