There are more shares short than actual float due to nonexistent shares being borrowed without checking, synthetic shares, and so on. They will just not close the shorts, whoever they owe these shares to moves to litigation, the shorts don’t close for years as the SEC creates a compromise that keeps things moving, you will never see the actual number of anything, and nothing happens. Even if they are massively corrupt, it is absolutely in the governments best interest to never show it. They can sweep this under a rug if they need to.

Of course none of this is true and irrelevant to think about. There are not more shares shorted than total GME shares.
