The car bubble is finally popping /biz/ bros, been waiting for this moment for the last 2 years. What should I buy? I have $20k. I'm thinking a Subaru but open to cool ideas. I need a car that an artsy alpha would drive. A car where bitches will be like "Oh he's got a nice car, he's legit" (must be $20k under though).

There's going to be a fire sale on bubble assets next year as people finally realise the music has well and truly stopped and it ain't starting up again until at least late 2026.

You want a fucking pro tip? Buy a big truck. Then bitches will know you can afford the gas and not give a fuck about it and they'll feel safe riding around with you because they're so high up. >Second, nobody is impressed with subarus except armpit hair girls and drug addicted nerds.
>Third, the bubble isn't popping, msrp is continuing to increase across the board on new vehicles, rates are still going up, and the purchasing power of your dollars decreases every day...

There's a slight correction happening now as used book values drop but no bubble bursting to be seen any time soon. Dealers are getting underwater on their used inventory but just lol if you think they are going to start whoring them out for half price or something.

The entry level price for status symbol cars is ~40k nowadays, ~60k for truggs.

I bought a $20k flashy car about seven years ago (used 3k miles current year model), it does nothing but attract dudes that I don't really want to talk to. Women seem to judge me as gay/mid life crisis/short dicked etc... I just really like how it drives and it has held it's value extremely well although I sort of don't like being seen in it. From the /biz aspect I suggest buying a car known as having an unofficial "tax" associated with it's resale value.

One of my best friends has an '01 LX470 since new that just ticked over 500k end of last year and beyond normal maintenance all he had to replace was the rear axle once.

Maybe if it's impeccably maintained and showroom condition. Otherwise you look like every other nigger driving a dirty 100k+ mile old bodystyle benz thinking it makes them look rich. Anyone who is actually wealthy and/or into keeping up with the joneses can tell it's not the latest bodystyle or especially collectable/desirable trim. Everyone else can't tell the difference between an e63 and a c250. Hell even a lot of car guys are unaware, my e550 is 8 years old, tuned to 510hp and smokes most of my coworkers' "sports cars" but it might as well be an accord to them because it's old and a sedan.

Buy what you like, don't worry about others. I personally like used v8 luxury barges actually. You can pick them up cheap out of warranty and will generally treat you well if you do your research and purchase the more reliable versions. Just don't expect to impress anyone actually worth impressing tho.

They'll implement NFT on the smallest of things and then tax the crap out of you for everything you hold until you realize it'll be easier to just get on a subscription program for everything right down to your amazon wardrobe. The reason why you'll be happy is that your ears will be getting lied to through your earpods while your eyes are lied to via your VR headset making you think you are in some META utopia. If you are lucky enough your brain will be lied to via your neuralink implant so when you eat the worms you will think it's tenderloin. Indeed it's going to be quite a central bank digital currency hellscape, but crypto has to be shown to be an awesome idea for the great reset when the sheep are fooled into thinking the federal reserves CBDC has any of the benefits of the pioneer decentralized cryptos.

You think low mile diesel trucks are suddenly going to price correct $30,000? That you're going to see new civics on sale for $18.5k after rebates like its 2015? We are unironically NEVER going back to the way it was. Manufacturers are packing more shit into the price of new vehicles, producing less of them, and stripping away financing and loyalty incentives. They have figured out that running production on the lean side and operating with slight scarcity allows them to maintain demand and justify higher profit margins on the fewer vehicles they do produce. Meanwhile cheapshit used cars continue to rack up miles. Plus every retard inaccurately evaluates their car as "excellent condition" on kbb.com and attempts to sell/trade their car at an absurdly inflated value. In 3 months people will still want 2021 prices for their trade ins and a discount off msrp...

The supply chain issues are just illuminating the real problem with the car market which is the financing side. Same thing as real estate and higher education, the lenders' willingness to hand out loans for a product drives the price up. Back in the day you had to go to a buy-here-pay-here lot with in house financing but now there are major lenders accepting subprimes on 150k mile vehicles. The difference here is instead of unskilled low iq college graduates and forclosed properties the remnants of this "bubble" will just be repo'd shitboxes that aren't worth anything and a big portion of the middle class stuck in their cars because they still owe 30-50% over their vehicles' actual cash value and can't afford to eat the difference or roll the negative equity into a new purchase.

The value of the car is directly proportional to the amount of money your average normies can pay on it per month, just like housing. Cheap debt isn't sustainable at these interest rates and anyone still hanging out loans like we're still at rock bottom won't be for long. The free money is gone. Higher interest requires lower price to keep monthly payments low enough to maintain demand.
Cutting production to keep prices high is a game of chicken, and one of them will break first.
They will sell the bottom or you'll go out of business.

Just 2 more weeks and rent will go down... 2 more weeks and I can buy a boomer's single family house for one year's wage again... 2 more weeks and I'll be able to afford a car...

>The value of the car is directly proportional to the amount of money your average normies can pay on it per month, just like housing.
Exactly, the everything bubble is strangling people from all sides but nothing is beyond reach yet... just painfully expensive. By design I'm sure. Subprimes excluded, most normies still have plenty of room in their finances to spend more of their income on vehicle loans according to lenders' DTI requirements.

>Cutting production to keep prices high is a game of chicken, and one of them will break first.
Over the course of a couple years, while simultaneously navigating the constantly accelerating timeline of epa regulations. They are going to have to adjust allocations and ramp up production with new tooling, accurately forecast demand, and not be strangled by gov regs by the time the vehicles hit the lots. Ford can't even come close to meeting demand for mavericksWhich nobody seems interested in doing since all future marketing and R&D is going into EVs now.

>They will sell the bottom or you'll go out of business.
It might seem like it when I sell you a clapped out 2012 camry for 2k off lot sticker because its been sitting on the lot for 3 months but what you don't see is how we make it up on the new yukon denali that I sell for 12k over that's still in transit from the factory.

Normally I’d say keep something like that until 250k miles, but with all the issues it’s having it might be worth looking into 2010-2016 year old cars with under 100k miles. Definitely check that the model year doesn’t suffer from any major issues.

Should be able to find some under $10k. Could also try to wait it out another year or two to see where prices go.

I never had one but a friend of my dad used one for those outdoor trips they use to make in the desert, was comfortable and i really like how it looks in the latests models.

Thoughts on Leasing a car until the bubble is fully bursted?
Something like a 2023 civic would be around $300/month for 3 years. I have the feeling that post 2020 cars won't last that long anyway, and you'll need all kinds of special tools and proprietary software just to diagnose and work on them...

Depends on your market. If you live in the northeast USA you have beter options, in my area of the country (southwest) the lease rates and manufacturers' residual estimates are dogshit ("money factor" = interest rate / 2400 fyi if you're unaware) . You can get a cheaper payment by financing and be in a similar washout equity position after 2-4 years if you keep mileage near leasing limits so there's literally no benefit to leasing in my market. Also don't forget nearly all lease advertising only quotes the monthly and hides the 3-6k "drive off fee" which is just cash down payment.
