The difference here is the peak end of the 2017 bull market was a short lived pop to a price which is about the same as the price now.

It's easy to have a bubble worth a thousand dollars or a million dollars. Even a billion dollars. When it hits a trillion dollars (as Bitcoin market cap did), it starts interacting with the economy in a more major way, people take a look at it, and - it is now worth less than a third of what it was a year ago.

Charts mean nothing. You can have it worth a dollar one year, two dollars the next, four dollars the next. One average person could cover that for a few years. Eventually the doubling starts becoming real numbers, and the market takes notice and the game stops. Which is what has been happening for cryptocurrency for the past year. Not to mention quantitative easing helped pump it up (along with other things).

Con Edison stock has gone up 20% in the last year, while Bitcoins are worth less than a third of what they were.
