I'm not worried about Russia, I'm more worried about our decaying relationship with opec and the Saudis. This admin has been such a fucking joke with trying to strong arm something we need more than they need us. Nobody thinks the shitskins are upstanding businessmen but between the NOPEC bill and just the general rhetoric coming from the west, I would not be surprised to see them make better deals with china, Russia, India, etc and leave us to wallow. Russia is basically a non factor here there oil just goes to other countries that up sell to us which is probably why prices relaxed a bit rather than SPR releases ALONE. I don't claim to be some oil baron though other anons probably have a better take

>>52583754
Sour production I would imagine would be the best. We've been draining medium-sour oil from our reserves and north America has to import it since most of our oil is the light-sweet. If you buy the narrative that president poopy pants will ever fill the oil reserve than this trade is going to be extremely lucrative but even if never happens that's probably the way to trade it. Sadly I'm retarded and just speculate on the broad market.

You get a lot of ounces for your $ so it's a good leverage play on gold, economics remain unclear though, it's pretty far out in the sticks so that adds cost. Their UG resource is very low grade so I'm guessing most of that is not economic. Not sure how much I trust managemnt.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know how much a meter of development costs for a large UG mine, I think they are typically 4x4m or 5x5m. Like US$5k/m these days? how much more expensive is it at 1000m depth compared to at surface, double the price? (assuming ramp access).

oh also for your original question, if your fairly close to surface, costs are high because of shoring / ground stability issues, deeper is better up to a point where you cross into deep mining issues like rock bursts and ground temp.
Ramp style modern mechanized mining is cheaper than sinking shafts but both have their own problems. Ramps for example can become a traffic jam if not properly monitored / controlled.

>> No.52593153

>>52593011
I've read that the deeper you go the more sense a shaft makes compared to a ramp, which seems logical as it must take a long time to drive a dump truck all the way down to 1000m dept. If the decline is 10% that's 10km, how fast do these trucks go UG, like 20km an hour? that's a lot of driving.

Often modern deep mines have both, a long winding ramp down to multiple levels and a set of shafts to access and haul ore to surface. Hecla Mining's Lucky Friday Mine is a good example of this if I recall. Your not too wrong about how long it can take to get to the bottom parts of mines, in the tiny UG project i was on last winter it took 15 minutes to get down only 260m, mostly due to how slimy the workings were though. If it were less of a mud bog gear could move around a lot easier.

They used stamp mills in most of California gold country to crush material that would be processed afterwards. Ironically, some of the largest nuggets were so big they got pitched out before they made it to the mill. So there are tailing piles all over California with nuggets so big they didn't even get processed.

From the article
>Certainly the largest recent discovery in the United States is the Butte Nugget, which was found in 2014 by an unnamed gold prospector using a metal detector. It comes from Butte County, a very rich region of California’s Mother Lode.

>The nugget is clean, smooth, and is solid gold with no quartz inclusions. Its total weight is 75 troy ounces! The nugget was sold to a secret buyer for $400,000.

>The Butte Nugget is proof that not all of the big gold nuggets have been found. This exceptional nugget likely came from a well-known gold producing area, and was simply been overlooked by everyone else. Even today, there are huge gold nuggets that are yet to be found!

He's got a lot of money so I don't want to risk it on something dumb.

70% in a silver/gold junior ETF is kind of heavy. With an uncle's money I'd play it more safe with that 70% in companies like Agnico Eagle that have a very low AISC and at least pay a dividend, he'll probably like that quarterly money. ironically enough it might be

high grade ores don't leach as well as lower grade disseminated stuff. I mean if you're dissolving metal one molecule at a time it's a lot faster to dissolve a couple molecules here and there than billions of them in thick masses.

this is why we alloy, part and roll metal for wet assays... smaller and thinner strips of mixed metal dissolve much faster and better than big hunks of pure stuff.

but more likely his ore isn't good for leaching because it's mostly base metals. And base metals dissolve preferentially before silver or gold does.

>> No.52617344

>>52616873
the real question is why they'd suddenly try to switch processes after setting up a flotation circuit, when flotation is generally more efficient than leaching and the two processes have very little overlap in equipment.

but as usual he gets right up to the finish line and turns around to start over. Because he's not interested in mining silver. Or so it seems every freakin time. They had a working flotation mill clear back when they decided to scrap it and build a new one for no real obvious reason.

>> No.52617381

>>52617255
It's funny to hear about "testing" when you could easily do this with the simplest shit and an afternoon of time. Nitric acid would sperate most of the base metals and then introduce copper and watch the silver rain down to the bottom of.the solution
Pretty cool to watch

>They had a working flotation mill clear back when they decided to scrap it and build a new one for no real obvious reason.
not that you need to own a mill to mine silver. There are plenty of mills that will buy silver ore if a mine happens to have some. Didn't need the Ocean deal for the same reason. There's a shitload of mills that will buy metal ore as-is without needing to ship it across the world.

but these seem like delay tactics on a project they never really intended to complete. Or that's how I see it. Probably my first complaints with the whole thing clear back years ago. If they got ore, why not just sell it to a local miner or refiner? Because they're not in any hurry to make money mining. They're making too much money off investors to care about mining.

I think you are right. The ore is so high grade he does not even bother processing what he "found" and trucked down to his new Payette facility. He just lets the ore site outside in those need little bags. Also, since ol'Graeme does have an exploration permit that permits Graeme to mine only 5,000 cy per year, of the world's highest quality silver ore, there really is not need to mine or process that either. As other anons pointed out, he just seems to stop short, over and over, hmmmmm...... I wonder why?

The companies name is mud in the hiring sphere, and their offers are contract only, with only basic benefits and no pay raises after 2 years. Why would anyone want to work there with that?
If Imperial cant get Huckleberry operational again in 2 years they will likely have to sell it as its a massive drain on their budget to have the site mothballed.
Surge should get out in front of Imperial, and give them a simple offer for the Huckleberry property.

If you want to take less risk, wait until they announce the details of their next financing round (they're looking at a partnership or royalty sale right now, rather than dilution). They're still 4-5 years away from production, so there will be more opportunities, even if you catch it at a higher bid price. a few hundred yards from that is an enormous Frue Vanner set up by a stream. You can pan beads of mercury out of that stream all day. It's the drinking water source for the town of Vail, so that's always amusing. Fair bit of gold in the mercury, but that old vanner is probably the real treasure. No way to get it down though.

there was a whole town up there too, my father has the rest of the photos. It was still actively lived in by 40 people up until the 1960s, abandoned due to road washouts and poor weather. Above the lower mine was an even higher one, accessed by a the Juniper Creek Rd the next valley over. Its ore was hauled to a huge tram tower at the edge of the mountain, feeding a rail spar. A team of horses and then a locomotive hauled ore there until 1929.

It's crazy the stuff they did to get ore down the mountain, that's for sure.

I research old mining camps as a hobby and sometimes for profit. Those old pics are getting rare and hard to find. Like even the stuff from our lifetime when more things stood. I wish more people took pics of that stuff back when it cost money to get a picture made. A lot of those old structures are gone just in the time I've been alive.

that cross track there is a bit odd, huh? was there a switch on it or does it just merge? Sorry if ignorant, I haven't seen that before I don't think.

that's a really cool job to have. I feel like it's a better tribute to the anonymous working miner than a gravestone ever could be.

Our problem here is those old pics are worth a fortune, so I keep in touch with a band of locals and we buy up old mining photos when they come up for sale. Then archive them and try to make them public. Mostly just our own area though. I know a guy that watches for pics from anywhere, but I just look for central colorado ghost towns and such. Not a lot out there. Some towns I've never found an original photo from. But we keep looking.

yeah a lot of it is like that photo I just posted there... part of a series that was sold to hundreds of people. Only a few survive, but they're not lost by any means. It's already in the public domain and can be found in museums.

a lot of it is hard to pin down where exactly it came from. I've got a handful of great pics of old mining towns and no idea where it is.

every now and then someone finds something that's labeled and has never been published. I search ebay and estate sales. Auctions. I ask around a lot. But with the dollar value of that stuff it's mostly been found and sold by now. I got a fair number of old pics my family took back during Colorado's gold rush, but I handed the rights to that stuff over to a local museum years back in case it helps people understand history.

Amazingly i got to meet one of the men that worked at that mine when he was a teenager. I was helping out at the local museum when this 90 year old man wandered in. He was looking at the wall of photos and ore samples from different mines in the district, and i asked if i could help him with anything. He told me to fuck off because he was "in his memories", pointing right at a shot of the Silver Standard. He started talking about the first time he road the little man buggy down the drive, seeing the light slowly fade away into black into the mountain. His eyes were unshakable marbles. I cant recall his name right now, but he worked at Silver Standard for nearly 20 years before shifting to Premier at Stewart BC. I dont know if hes still around, I might have to look into that.

It's amazing to me he did 20 years at one mine. Our miners did a few months or years before the project went bust or they got itchy feet and moved on. My uncle is a good example, he worked at nearly every mine operating in the county and a shitload in other parts of the state as well. Probably worked almost a hundred different mines in the span of 30 years. My aunt and my father in law were the same. Just worked whatever job was paying best that week. But their stories were amazing. Now my uncle has alzheimers and doesn't really remember. My aunt is dead. My father in law doesn't talk much about his mining days aside from where he worked and who he knew there. Those stories are disappearing as fast as the sites are.

you caught that too....

they used to use ponies but they'd get spooked underground and smash their stupid head in on the roof. Shetland ponies did a bit better because they were bred for mining and couldn't reach the roof, but burros and sometimes mules were the standard until engines took their place. Or horses on a topside windlass. That worked too.

Considering just doubling down BHLL on NFG since the recent findings haven’t done much to the price. Market cap, I get that. But actually having a miner that’s making things happen seems to be a much rarer thing than the minerals themselves

>After last week's rocket move higher in precious metals and other risk assets, this week proved to be the hangover we expected. The yield curve (2's/10's) crashed to new lows, thoroughly cementing that a brutal recession is coming this winter. The U.S. Dollar recovered and held the 200 DMA, while St. Louis Fed President Bullard extinguished all hopes of an early Fed pivot. He stated that interest rate hikes must get to the 5-7% range and what the Fed has done so far has had "only limited effects" on inflation.
